Unlocking Cores in x2 and x3

I figured this guide would help some of us po' folks save a few bucks...

It seems that it's the luck of the draw on these, but the same goes for oc, so we're no strangers to the gamble. Looks like fun!

Hell yeah it is. I'm thinking realistically the ability to do this is more than 50%... It has to be. AMD tests a few chip out of a batch, if too many of them have flaws then they disable the "flawed" cores in all the chips for that batch. It stands to reason that most x3 and x2 chips are worth buying for the purpose of unlocking.

If you get a bad one, YOU LOSE... HA!

Just try and not get pissed if it does not work!!! from what I have seen lately they are getting harder and harder to unlock and quite a few of the ones that do unlock have defective cores.

Yah I posted that back when I started my 550BE unlocking thread at OCF. HAd to mention it a couple of times IIRC "Buy the chip expecting a great AMD dual core"

Lots were fortunate with that chip, but not all :)

Motherboards also play a part along with the chip since some MB's seem to do it consistently, others seems less likely to unlock the extra core(s). My MSI is one of the MB's that seems to consistently have issues with this but a few have done it.

As to the rest, no guarantees with anything so do the research and good luck.
