Which Kit For Daily?
Just put together an i5 gamer with a 650 and M3F. Had ordered a set of Patriot sector 5 2000 9-9-9s and they ended up being 9-11-9s that wouldnt run over 1500. My Corsair sticks do fine up to 1800, but they belong in my HTPC.
Im looking for the cheapest option to run 1800Mhz 8-8-8 or better daily, and have the possibilty of doing 2000Mhz with half decent timings. They got to match the look of the board though  Was looking at these, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231412 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231410 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145291 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-123-_-Product I assume the Gskills are the same. Mushkin Sean posted at mushkin forums saying the Ridgebacks would do 2000 7-10-8, but Ive never seen it anywhere. I guess they are the same as the Redlines but bigger heatspreaders. Im leaning towards those cause of the price. |

7-10-8 is doable on air.....
7-10-7 if you raise the voltage a little i don't mind doing the psc...they're actually ok. but i still prefer kingston high speed rams. anyday... |
Mushkin Enhanced Ridgeback

newegg sold out of the ridgebacks, but I found these on Amazon,

I would rather have 1333 6-6-6 over 1800 8-8-8 anyday. But I am an AMD RAM guy mostly :)
I never noticed much of a differnce on any of them for speed. Once you have enough bandwidth more does not help, only latencies. it is usually easier to get tighter than it is faster IME to lower them. |

I did a comparison a while back, and there was much of a difference with the timings or speed untill I upped the NB to 2600 to ease up on the bottleneck. Fastest Spi32 I got was 1600Mhz 6-6-6-18 with NB at 2600. |

IE DDR3 1600 = 800MHz = 2400MHz CPUNB speed. And yes SPI32 is a memory everything intensive app. I was talking for use on a non-bench rig. Tighter latency over higher speed is my recommendation. |
The Mushkin Ridgeback 2000Mhz 7-10-8s came today. Wont post past 180BCLK. My corsair XMS3 1600 kit is fine up to 190BCLK, with timings of 9-10-9 (never got to try a higher speed or looser timings yet) with 1.6vdimm and 1.25v IMC.
Tried 1.654xx Vdimm, 1.325v IMC, and the same 9-10-9 timings and it still wont post with the Mushkins. 180BCLK 7-8-7 posts fine though. Not stable, but working on it. Does about 2 passes Prime blend with 1.25v IMC. Might try 7-9-7. |
does your mb have in the bios mem tim settings for N1,2,3 ?

2K still isnt happening. Not sure what else to try.

set tRFC to 100

Still nothing. Tried with the Corsairs again, and they wont post at 200BCLK either, even with extremely loose timings all around. The board keeps getting to the DRAM post LED and getting stuck everytime I try 200. I tried up to 105 PCIe as well.
Starting to think its the IMC or the board. |
remount chip...and cooler...could be board is flexed or cpu contact with pins aren't good...

Ill be getting a water kit pretty soon, and will check again then. Just ran prime at 1900Mhz 7-9-7-24 with 1.28v IMC. Going to work on lowering the volts and maybe some of the sub timings, but for now thats pretty good for daily I think. |
I ended up replacing them with Trident 2k 9-9-9s since I got those for $50, and can send the Mushkins back to pocket $75.
The Gskills passed 1900 8-8-8 first try. I have an i7 860 coming so hopefully I can flex them out a bit. |
