Manual Wazza Video

Basic idea on how to run it.

You can play around with
-page file size
-max mem size
-wazza file sizes

Good luck guys, feedback is welcome. Was easy to make I can always remake it.

HITandRUN 09-06-2010 04:39 PM

Thanks Splavestick! Im at work so I can't check it out but I sure watch it when I get home.

rickss69 09-06-2010 04:45 PM

Are you a frigging mute or something? :rofl

Kal-EL 09-06-2010 04:53 PM

Splave, the bb code for embedding the youtube videos is [yewtube] (<----correctly spell youtube] [/yewtube]

So you take everything aftger the "=" in the youtube link "Z2VdSWktL_g" and place it between the youtube tags:

[yewtube]Z2VdSWktL_g[/yewtube] and it will show your video embedded on the forum.

The resolution used for the video is a bit too tinsy tiny and I'd love to hear your San Fran man voice giving a narrative ;)

Neuromancer 09-06-2010 05:13 PM

Very nice...

Gotta say even with that recorder app running your inital and first loop times are the same as mine was LOL

DAMMMMN

Thanks for the idiots guide to wazza splave :)

No you wrong! He is a very manly man! :D ;)

Splave 09-06-2010 05:51 PM

rofl, yeah you have to go to the youtube link pick 480p or 720p then full screen it to see. Its hard because you need the higher resolution to show it so best to go to the link to see it in full screen

thebanik 09-06-2010 06:32 PM

In office cant see, if I may ask what gives you the best result? do you guyz only do CW or CDT as well???

Neuromancer 09-06-2010 06:38 PM

splave looks like he is doing cdt to me

EDIT: Just to clarify, CDT is using multiple smaller files over one large one correct? and IV is copying it back and forth?

I have had the best results with CDT...IV showed me nothing but wasted time/effort.

and now the million dollar question, what is your procedure of CDT, :P

because in its hey days no one was able to figure it out properly,

rickss69 09-06-2010 08:37 PM

I use the OCXSPITweaker...it does it's thing automatic. I have yet to try a manual waza. TBH, I think once you find the sweet spot for the freq/mem you can do no wrong. When I get in the spot I can repeat runs exactly multiple times back to back. The key seems to be throwing in a variable from time to time to shock the process and cause a reaction...hopefully a positive one. Yep...it's all about voodoo. :taunt:

GFDuke 09-06-2010 11:40 PM

This is a super job Splave. Thanks for showing you tricks to us.

FACE 09-07-2010 02:03 AM

Wazza CDT is basically copying 3 times.... (makes 3 actios)
cdt swaps back and forth between 3 parts. Spitweaker asks for only 2 partitions, so I am assuming it just swaps back and forth between the two.

....if you are too lazy (like me) or do not feel like making the files for wazza, you can have spitweaker make them for you. run spitweaker the 1st run, then after that, the files are already there. All you have to do is drag/drop. wazza done!

Splave 09-07-2010 03:35 AM

CDT-IV

Example where second partition is D: and pi partition is C:

- make two folders waza and waza2 on second partition. In this case d:\waza & d:\waza2

1. create waza files in d:\waza
2. copy d:\waza folder to c:\ for three times (overwrite)
3. copy d:\waza folder to d:\waza2 for three times (overwrite)
4. copy c:\waza to d:\waza for three times (overwrite)

This Process can take significant more time as normal CDT or classic WAZA

Splave 09-07-2010 03:49 AM

ps try running spi tweaker and watching the memory usage, it will be much higher ;) manual is more efficent, cuts more time and takes likes time :)

Forgot to add to the video, once you close all windows at the end of the wazza wait for your HDD light to stop blinking then start. Sorry!

MaadDaawg 09-07-2010 06:04 AM

You are a scholar and a gentleman Sir, and I thank you for taking the time to put that video lesson together :)

Unfortunately, I was unable to read the small words, and generally unable to follow what you did when and why. I saw you copy two files and run Super Pi 3 times.

Wish one of you guys lived closer

ocgmj 09-07-2010 06:10 AM

View the video on youtubes website. ;) Increase to 720p and view full screen. Awesome job spliggawazza.

Splave 09-07-2010 06:12 AM

^this :) you can always pause it too

Neuromancer 09-07-2010 06:30 AM

yeah pause is essential as even full screen 720p its res'ed out.

So you basically wan to see the lowest memory usage in SPI after waza is done right or do you want to be around 250kb?

Patch 09-07-2010 08:02 PM

Bravo Splave!

According to my understanding, you need to bring available memory and system cache as close to as possible before you start your superpi run....

Kal-EL 09-08-2010 12:37 AM

Finally watched it in 720p + full screen, nice Job Splave :)
Needs some metal background music for ambience tho ;) and OCAlliance dekstop background :P

Yes for the long run you want them as close as possible, but getting the memory usage wayyyy down of all the programs will help bring your first iteration lower giving you a nice little boost on final score.

Thanks Splave. I've been trying to learn to Wazza my Pi times, but to no luck. Gonna work some more with what I've learned from this thread.

Yeah I always wondered why my initial values were poor...

Looking at my HWBot results, it is always I have worse initial value but better looptimes in my area of pi efficiency.

Not saying that is good or bad, as I am never near the top dogs anyway...

Patch 09-10-2010 11:10 AM

Want to applaud this video once more. Got it down now, and I like manually moving files. Feels like I'm doing something.

Just realized my stripped XP even has themes stripped.....gonna have to reinstall with a different version and get SP3.

Any problem using quick launch bar? I don't like using any desktop icons, but I love using the quick launch bar when benching.

Edit: LOVE the manual method over the spitweaker. Distinctly reproducable benefits.

MaadDaawg 09-12-2010 02:27 PM

At first I was thinking, hey, this would be GREAT if I could just read it  Then I figured out that by switching over to Utube to watch it I could full screen it.

Awesome work AL ... gotta try it very soon :)

Splave 09-12-2010 07:02 PM

thanks men! I felt the same way when I learned patch, thats what really pushed me to make the video :)

Patch 09-13-2010 06:21 AM

Hey Al,

Anything magic about your target spi memory usage of 250ish?

I've been using a 3.1 GB "new OS files" file that I keep on my benching stick. Transferring it 7 or 8 times gets my mem usage down to about 180 and it improves the score. Minor improvements, albeit. Haven't had the patience to try to get it lower than 180 yet......

Neuromancer 09-13-2010 07:22 AM

Yeah mine has been dropping to like 80KB usage...

rickss69 09-13-2010 07:33 AM

Oddly I get down to 44K usage with OCX. Just tried the BenchTec ToolBox and it pulled 88K. All of this is good info for all members like myself learning the ways of SPI...Thanks to all! :)

hehe, I can get mine down to 36k... problem is, if you click anything other than "ok" on spi, it will jump up to 500-700k instantly. The system is already "balanced" though, so no need to worry about the jump. ;)

rickss69 09-13-2010 07:56 AM

Made a single run with the BenchTec ToolBox. It appears to work ok but the copy wazza size box is greyed out...I have contacted Mutant for some support. He also has some PiFast link but have been unable to get it to run.
