Yeah, you pretty much have to use water with them.

Its basically transfers heat via electricity from one side (the cold plate) to the other (hot side)

You place it on your CPU cold plate down, then drop the waterblock on it. plug it in.. and go.

But they use a lot of enegry. Generally not regarded as anything special. Was a simple way to subambient temps back in the day though.

The yellow wire is 12v yeah the red is 5 volt (and on sata the 5th wire, orange, is 3.3v)

As for how to hook it up... it depends on the wattage and voltage pelt you are looking at getting

Just hack up an air conditioner just about the easiest way to go sub zero.

This is important. If you have a decent Pelti you wont be able to run this thing off your PC PSU. You will need a dedicated PSU for it.

and i am thinking about the ones that's like same size as the top of the LGA1366 or maybe a little bigger like 4.2cm x 4.2cm is i did a little math it's about 130~160W

Well first of all... the 754-AM2 watercooling kit... I know the H50 is popular... but my first loops was a single 120MM BIX rad, 355 and a tline. It was no better than high end air for cooling a clawhammer processor when OCed.

Granted it was my first loop so I am sure a good reason for that was user error. I made a few mistakes, the only one I did not fix before selling the loops was cleaning hte block and rad with a vinegar bath (did not know about that back then)

However it is a start if you are only cooling CPU

As for the pelts...

400W is excessive for a Q6600. Might be good for a 980X though. Of course.. I think 50mm might even be larger than 1366. It is about 40-45% larger than a socket 775.

Cant find info on 1366 die size.. 775 is 37.5mm and 1366 is 20-30% larger. Still not 50mm if my math is not off.

Also a single fan waterloop is not going to be enough to cool a 200+ watt pelt.

A peltier is not a REPLACEMENT for a good watercooling loop. It is an addition to an overdesigned one!

I dont want to tell you NOT to go pelt.

But don't

For the money the good loop and pelt will cost (let alone operating cost) pick up even one of the koolance v1 pots (yeah its really a dice pot... but hey.. its cheap!) and a couple hundred liters of LN2

EDIT: You posted before I finished typing :p You looking to cool your 920? whole nother ball game. To reduce a 4.5GHz 920 to ambient temps I think you will need approximately 150W-180W of pelt. Maybe more... no more than 200 i think though. A well designed 120.2 waterloop would be efficient enough for that. For subambient though... you really will want a 3 fan rad minimum.

go to a garage sale an buy a window A/C unit or check Craigslist. Ive gotten mine for under $40.
You can be sub zero for less than a good loop. A/C, Pump, Block, Hose an cooler, hose insulation, denatured alchohol is all u will need.

thank you so much for going so deep with my question
my Q6600 is just gonna be a testing toy for me, it's really for me play around and learn
(BTW. play around is really not play around, it's more like i am doing lots of overclocking on it, and/but if something go wrong oh well too bad it's not gonna be a HUGE HUGE deal unlike my LGA1366 chips)
i been thinking about buying a new chip to replace both my 920s for a LGA 775 the IHS is much smaller than the LGA 1366 so i am thinking about just make the water block or pot based on the LGA 1366 chip size, so when comes to smaller chip what ever is extra is extra unless intel is coming out with a new LGA (i saw that on the web today)

| |
|---------------------|
the long side is 3.45~3.5cm, short side is 3.25~3.3cm
only if i am going to pelt, here is my set up for the new Dr. Jackass
-Intel Q6600 D0 w/ no mod [but thinking about it if it really helps oc (just the pin mod)]
-EVGA 780i FTW w/ no mod
-PNY GTX 260 w/ no mod [YET]
-Antec EarthWatts 650W [JUST GOT IT]
-WD 320GB BlackBox 2.5 size
-CoolerMaster Aquagate DuoViva Kit + ThermalTake 3.25in Tank (replacing pump asap and adding a 3x120mm rad on to it)

do you think is it gonna be enough?
this LGA775 setup is my ONLY LGA775 test station...

and here are the two i been looking at getting if i do
168W
http://cgi.ebay.com/USA-QUALITY-168W...item41480c2fd5
138W
http://cgi.ebay.com/138W-Peltier-The...item4836096b44

they are like less than $15, more or less, i just wanna get one or two just to play around with it
if is such bad idea i am not even gonna stick that in my computer @ all!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

for the Pots...
i have been watching this pot from day one...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
and this too
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

i know the first one is more for DICE and second one is more for LN2 but F1EE is really where REAL OCER wanna oc with LN2 going to get, i looked on the F1EE's offical site the price is about 200 something vs you know the first one is about 110 and second one is 170, and if i am gonna be going with the more $$$ one shouldn't i be going to the F1EE [i think]
1. is F1EE that much better than the Koolance Pot V2? proformance based
2. because Koolance is more for DICE what about F1EE? a good friend of my is supporting me with DICE for FREE lol (he is a Professor @ Vanderbilt University ) so i can get DICE just as easy as LN2 now lol
3. like you said a couple hundred liters of LN2 and a Koolance V1 Pot = ness, how much of diff is that gonna make? it is passable for me, i just got to do it at a Vanderbilt's lab but it can happen, but F1EE VS Koolance V1 porformance HUGE or just huge?
4. comes to DICE Koolance V1 is the way to go, but it sux at LN2 and F1EE is really good at LN2 how about DICE? like Koolance V1 VS F1EE on DICE?

sorry dump so much question on you guys all the time
thank you
