Default XFX 5870 XXX vs Asus EAH5870

I was sent the Asus earlier and now the XFX cards...I was asked to compare the two cards using the same set-up (H20)..I asked if they would be Cherry picked and I was told they would be sent from Newegg or Diger Direct. They wanted a air or H20 comparison...I made things as equal as i could..We had a cold front for both of these but i had the house at 71....
I believe i am actually doing someones homework but i will push anything in my cube for a freebie..That didn't sound right did it??? Benching referral only....
There are many of you that can get more out of these than i can but I made things equal as far as what i did.
Right now because of Bots i am sticking with 1 card comparisons..If you are a regular guy (air or water) multi cards don't really help...I will get to the multi later for my own pleasure...

First off I have to say I was under the impression when i started that the XFX XXX card was only worth the extra money if you wanted the double lifetime warranty because the OC clock that comes with them is really a down clock..900-1300.. compared to the Asus 1200-1400..It does run a higher clock at stock but i had to reduce the clock to 850-1200 for it to game without issues...
If you don't mind flashing the bios like I did with the help (BIG TIME) of Gutterz the XFX card runs smooth as silk then and is a bit stronger...You might say " they are all ATI reference cards except the bios but I believe XFX is cherry picking there gpu's or something because they do run a bit faster and cooler...

Sorry about the long windedness....

Vantage with the Asus the best i could get out of it at 4.500 was 19,800...with the XFX XXX with the Asus bios I hit 21,145 at 4.500 around 1400 points better consistently

3D06 was close but the XFX edged it out 28,060 and 28,172 at 4.525 ..What is really freaky is this single GPU card with a so so clocker at best beat the 4870x2 with 2 gpu's....

I put 2 of the 3D06 runs here..I stayed in between these 2 scores for 4.525..both are 100+ ponts better than i did with the Asus...

3D03 with the Asus was 92,200...with the XXX card was about 600 points better..I did atleast 3 runs...4.650

3D05 was close but still about 200-260 better for the XXX at 4.650 36,400 for Asus and 36760ish for the XXX

Aqua was also close but always stayed ahead..You know how Aqua jumps a bit..I was around 1000 points faster with the XXX...333,000 with the Asus and this with the XXX

I didn't put these up here to show how well i clocked them...
Anyone who knows me knows i am a hardware Junkie not a great clocker..I feel actually lonely with this 1 card..I have room to put a Turkey or my work boots in the cube....

Also I am not cutting down the Asus..lets face it..Without there bios they would kill these XFX cards...Also i have been accused of being a bit of an Asus fanboy ( that is what the XFX guy said).

The fact is even though it was close and you can see different ram clocks which I used everything I did for both the XFX pulled ahead on every bench i did....

I forgot to mention that I used the same GPU OC but the XXX seemed to take more OC than the Asus did..I didn't put those in the mix...

Now to refine this and burn it on a CD and send it in....I hope my Asus guy doesn't see this....!!!!!!!

THE END

Good work buddy. If you could show us some screenies, hwbot links, or fm links to "show" the difference in scores. That will keep the haters away.

How much cooler is the XFX running vs the Asus? If the 5800 series is like the 4800 then you may be getting scaling due to lower temps. Atleast I had a top bencher inform me this is the case.

As far as screenies. I usually post everything on here..The Asus is under 5870 test...

As far as haters there is no need in them...for sure...I love both of these cards.. Actually XFX is a bit behind the eight ball so to speek.. There Bios has a flaw...The Asus bios is better..But there is something making the XFX run abit better clock...

As far as temps both cards are still great.. You can set the fan at 35% for stock running and stay about that and the asus seems to run around a few degrees warmer in the bench but still below 60..I really can't see why you would need to WC these unless you were a hardcore 4 hour gamer...

I am sure that someone else could post the same thing and get the Asus to come ahead.... Actually except for Vantage which I did in 64 instead of 32 all the scores were so close..The Vantage score was 1000 higher to 1400 as you can see in 5870 test.. I just found it interesting that XFX pulled ahead in all the runs i did...The bottom line is these are great cards... The Asus EAH5870 or the XFX 5870 XXX....The best I ever owned including the 5970 but that is just personal opinion....Both cards have no issues for me that I have read about..Like gray lock-ups etc. etc... They run cooler and faster and less problematic than any card I have ever tryed....

I put these comparisons on here because I have to do it anyway...If this bothers anyone I will stop... I am not Johnny Guru for sure but do enjoy trying these just as i will the fermi compared to these at the same bench....

Again a special THANKS to GUTTERZ for helping me with the bios flash..This is usually easy these days but for some reason win 7 wants to fight the USB stick.....

nice comparison. I myself have not had any problems on the XFX XXX 5870 like all the reviews state on the egg. But I never ran the card with the XFX bios. Maybe XFX just has a chitty bios.

I always game a bit with a new card to see how it does and temps..I had issues with there OCed 900-1300 bios...Freeze up's etc... As soon as i lowered the clockes to 850-1200 it was fine....
As far as the extra 18.00 for the XXX that could be worth it to some..If you are the type to sell your card after a year or so and move up the double Lifetime which means who you sell it to also gets the lifetime warranty can be handy...

Some companies don't honor there cards once sold....

As you can tell by most benches i did the core was over 1000 which even if you tryed to keep the XFX bios you would have to stay under 900...

Not sure how the vanilla XFX is..(what bios it has)...I was lucky to have a mate from my team help me change...

Asus always seems to be a step ahead when it comes to ATI GPU Bios's...

I did manage a 4.550 thanks to suggestion from 69 Goat and got my best 3D06 single GPU score ever..
I didn't compare this because i never ran 4.550 with the Asus with 3D06 or any other card as far as that goes... Thanks Goat..I am working on it....

I am just about finished with the single...I will put the second in tom...I might have to call ..I could have maybe forgotten how to do the bios flash...I have the usb...Just have to make sure i type in the right stuff....It makes me nervous.....

You know, I am not going to be able to do what you do with that 30 below action you have invented..I am thinking about putting the cube in a small freezer.....I will give it a shot ... I will probably be able to do what you do with 1 and no boints at all....Go ahead and show what you have done with the -30 in 3d03-05-Vantage....I know you set the pace...

What does the gray numbers on the left at Bots mean????
