Suggestion for cheap DIce rig
Going to be borrowing Chuchnit's DIce pot, and I think I am about finished up with benching the ATOM setup I have, so going to get it all put together and list it on ebay.
Looking for a cheap rig that will be boint heavy :) Also going to need a new PSU for my main rig. Want to get something a little larger than the 560W silverstone I am using and use the 560W for the DIce machine. My intention was to bench my 920... but it looks like it would be a lot of work for little reward. 920 at the bot 2 boints for first place in any category, and I already got 2 gold cups air cooling. So might add 4-5 points by DIcing. Thinking Athlon II X2 240, but not sure on mobo/ RAM to get. Possibly sempron 140 although competition in both of those will be tough... would be better shot than my current stuff. Figure I can sell my ATOM setup for about $400 beans probably so looking at $300 ish total for the CPU, Mobo, RAM and PSU. Used is plenty fine so keep "new" pricing down below $400 for a parts list and I will do the bargain shopping from there :) Thanks |
I was planning on selling a few things
CH3 Sempron 140 - it unlocks but its hard to overclock( i think its a dud chip ) 750w Corsair PSU <- in rma was thinking of trying out P55 for a while |
Whats a CH3?
|
Asus Crosshair 3
I'm the original owner so rma is possible it also comes with all accessories |
Well that board is probably outta my price range... but YHPM

Thinking about hte TA790GX a3+ am3 board
Or should I be looking at a 775 setup? |
I would prolly go with a 775 since PHII only scales with temps. You'd prolly get more out of 775 on dice than PHII.

Even then Intel clearly creams AMD on any bench so you would be limited to just 2D stuff. |
Well pretty sure that a 4 GHz + range socket 775 dual core does not have the nuts to handle 3D benching either. Imma look at just 2D benching for now. Maybe later when I get another X58 setup I can go back to 3D.
