Jake's Sub-Zero Adventures

I had all this stuff typed once and inadvertently closed IE instead of the preview pane I was viewing. :ohcrap:
So this time you're getting the condensed version. Probably not a bad thing because you didn't want to read all my blathering anyway.
On Friday, I picked up 10 kg of dice for my first "real" sub-zero session. I had the MB all insulated as per DrNips guide, the CPU pot (courtesy of Supes) and temp probe installed.
My plan was to improve my wPrime, 06, and Vantage scores, as those are the benches most affected by heat. Well, none of that happened. The pot just wouldn't hold the temps down. I discovered, when I tore down the setup, that I had the eraser too thick around the CPU and it was holding the pot off the chip slightly, hence the temp problems.
The experience wasn't an epic failure, as I learned alot. Like, "Don't pour Acetone through a styrofoam cup/funnel." Acetone eats it. Quickly!
I also learned, I can boot into windows at 21 x 234 @ -45C. That was as far as I got before running out of dice.

Minor setback, looks like it was still a fun adventure :)

I'm not sure its destroyed yet but yah, the eraser on that gpu you insulated was too high and prevented good contact between the gpu block and the gpu. Same smell.

Yeah, it was alot of fun. With more experience I should be able to reduce the NOOB mistakes, or just make different ones.
I do all my benching in my office. :D
After hours, of course. ;)

great start! subzero is something that grows on you each time you do it (at least ofr me). Everyone makes some mistakes in the beginning, but thats how you learn the fastest. My first mistakes were alot more costly than yours, I killed 2 great chips and a motherboard :D

HAHA I did the same thing my 1st go around with a styrofoam cup. Nice setup and nice boot up clock.

I can't wait to take that plunge :) Going to have to do it one something other than an i7 though LOL
