I agree that substitutes or cheap stuff are more about longevity. Will toothpaste last in a 24/7? system? hell no. Prolly wont last an hour 
But for others, yeah the cheap it is fine if you slapping it on, checking and wiping it back off. Might need to CLEAN a little more often but I almost NEVER clean and I throw IC7 diamond paste on everything (you can get it free a lot of the time)
