The chip is replaceable.... if you were to put another one on, it wouldn't be that hard at all. It is the least messy of all solder jobs....

1. Remove any old solder, and the joint pieces left. Make sure to get all the old solder off the pad.
2. place a tiny (really tiny) spec of flux in the center of each pad.
3. heat the pad with the iron so the flux melts, then quickly touch the solder to it... The pad should cover with solder almost perfectly.
4. Grab the new part. place another tiny spot of flux on the bottom of the legs. place the part where you want it to be, then heat the legs up one at a time while applying light pressure.

5. Done!
