Mankind is attacked by a race referred to as "Locusts" that have lived underground and are now attacking the surface. IMO, a far more intense and interesting game to play than Halo. Graphics are awesome (the unreal engine) and very detailed. Main weapon is the Lancer which is a combat rifle with a chain saw in place of a knife - you run up to a locust and cut him in half :

hard to explain but an excellent game. GOW 1 is the only one out of PC, and prolly pretty cheap since it's been out for awhile.
