Five months ago, we wrote how Apple rejected Intel's 32nm Arrandale [Core i3/i5] processor and Calpella platform for their MacBook Refresh. The reason behind it was obviously - one of hardware features inside the technology kit nVidia likes to call Optimus. The technology won numerous awards, including our own Mainstream Innovation Award. In base, the principle was to remove the hardware MUX switches that unnecessarily raised the cost of creating a notebook in double-digit figures. In our technology overview, we could not state that nVidia has won the Apple deal, but writing was on the wall. The same thing repeated on CeBIT 2010, when almost all notebooks on the ASUS booth used Optimus switching graphics.
