Jeff, what he means by "Intel" isn't that you need to purchase a motherboard manufactured by Intel. He means a motherboard based off the Intel design without the Nvidia N-force 200 chip. Asus, MSI, DFI, Foxconn, etc, make Intel based motherboards for the Kentsfield and Yorksfield Intel, or lets say socket 775, which is what you're looking at with a qx9770 or 9650. These Intel, socket 775 motherboards can't do Nvidia SLI but can do ATI crossfire and x-fire.

If we're talking socket 1366, or Nehalem, it doesnt matter because all the x58 or 1366 chipsets do both SLI and ATI configurations. Nvidia and Intel negotiated for the use of SLI on Intel based chipsets.
