So since I have a sempie 140 in my HTPC, which IIRC is on the stock cooler and still capable of 4GHz...

I expect this to be the contention point. I do not have any great RAM available I will swap out the crappy gskill in it now though, try and hit some 1600 C7 stuff at least, AMD is not as sloppy in its mem requirements as intel... so will just hope you dont have any hypers laying around.

DDR2 or DDR3 RAM? I too have a 140 and might get in on this. Don't have a HTPC type mobo but do have a Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P and soon to have a GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3. Will also be competing with my 955 BE.

I dont have any ddr2 boards, I will be using an 890GX mobo.

I will backup the OS image just in case I over fiddle with something.

Down with whatever. AMD, Intel, XP, Vista Win 7 anything will be fun.

When I give the Sempron 140 a spin it will have to be XP...Win7 just won't cut it.

There will be over a month of competition so I'll have time to tweak and twist various setups as well as OS's.
