What do you do? Just reading what Scott does for a living, and was fasenated reading it, So sitting here I thought it would be cool to have a thread dedicated to what we all do at our day jobs For me I am a plumbing estimator and operations manager for a mid sized Mechanical company of about 80 employee's in Lancaster PA. I create quotes for job as small as remodleing a bathroom in someones home to a 170 room hotel we are finishishing in the Pittsburg Area, crazy out there right now, with the Superbowl crazies ..... The largest job I ever quoted was a Fedex Hub in Harrisburg PA. 2.7 million .... I was high unfortunatly and did not land that one ......... :ohcrap: I also run all the man power, payroll, schedule the jobs and order the material in for said jobs. It is a decent way to make a living but I have to say, I lacks what it once had as with the econemy the way it is everybody nickle and dimes me all day and is getting discouraging to see the lack of quality of some of todays builders, it is all quanity at the lowest possible price and anymore it seems we work for huge construction managment companies rather than actual builders. sorry, just ranting ... Not to glamerous But It's a living ......... |

I want to be a house inspector one day but until then I work at a prison full time and fix sewing machines with my dad every Saturday for about 4 hours. The sewing machine gig is in the works of being a Pfaff outlet repair shop meaning sewing machines would be sent to us from out of state. Can't wait for that because I make about $100-200 every Saturday for only 4 hours of work. That trumps the money I am making at the prison. It's cheese wiz and reminds me alot of repairing computers. I will be quiting my job at the prison when this happens. Would love to do the sewing machine and inspector job. |

Too many darn squid around here. :P My story is pretty simple. I manage a medical practice. It sucks. There is too much stuff to do and with four locations it is all but impossible to keep an eye on everything. |

Nothing glamorous here, :(. I used to be a Business Analyst with France Telecom, which have offices in 123 countries. With many similar but different applications being used in different countries. I used to analyse the applications which used to come up for review from technical as well business POV and then used to suggest if any of them can be phased out saving the company huge licensing fees. Was a good and very very important and unique role in the organisation(and did I mention I used to take months to analyse the applications, :P_, But then my immediate manager was an asshole, and just because of him decided to take another position within FT. Now I am a senior DBA in the same company but have to spend huge hours in office supporting one thing or the other and this seem to me to be run of the mill kind of job, :( |
