i just got my i7 system up and "running" again
here is my setup: i7 920 GA-EX58-EXTREME (I JUST GOT OFF EBAY) <- where the issue is at PNY GTX260 audigy 2 sound blaste 1x320GB WD 6x1.5TB Seagate Samsung 2x2GB 1333MHz Antec 850W (Yellow one) when i turn the system on (hit the power swich) it turns on and after a sec or 2 it turns it self off... all lights comes on on the self tester the post code is showing 88 (it may just not have time to even know it's booting and turned off...):Dizzy: i tested the power supplie and works great (use a paper clip jump between any BLACK and THE GREEN) powers on works great when i turn on the computer the FAN on the GTX260 comes on (spents up) i have taken out the ram but didn't do anything... FYI.. i did add some heatsink on the board is that gonna do anything? |
Put everything back stock and see if she boots... sounds like you have a short somewhere. ;)
|
your grounding somewhere....
remove any heatsinks you have added.... hookup 24 pin and 8 pin.... tahts it... remove GPU... power up with just cpu in board and heatsink not mounted.... just heatsink sitting on CPU just PSU/mobo/cpu and cpu cooler.... remove everything else... let me know what happens... |
bent cpu pin?
|
just found out what's going on...
well... on the back of the baord there is a CMOS reset swich, and it is stock... so i may have to RMA the board... I THINK... i removed everything on the board and it's still the samething... i looked all the grounding and all the heatsink i added and samething... i looked there was not any bent cpu pin.. |
Check for loose screws behind the motherboard?

damn it i was hoping starting benching tonight F! |
you can use a pointed object to pry that switch free..that switch never got stuck on my x58xtreme...
that mobo is hard to kill...i had good times with it but you'll soon find out bclk ceiling if you're doing bclk testing... |
try another psu
Had the same thing happen to my 1k toughpower psu 1 day it just decided to stop working and all it would do is run for 3 secs then shut off |
Is the mobo mounted in a case? Try removing it and laying on the box the board came in.
Remove/reseat everything to make sure all is ok. If you have other ram/hhd's graphics cards use them instead to take anything out of the loop that may be stopping post. HDD's are a good culprit to look at as well as ram. |
