Suggestions on CPU

Good Day everyone ;)

This is my my little thread on suggestions on what to get for my new rig....right now I have questions on the type of CPU to get...thinking about getting the Core i5

Not sure if I should get the Clarkdale or the Lynnfield....and would it be benefical if the chip comes with the Intel graphics? There are about three different ones I am looking at but I was not sure if I should get the i5 w/intel graphics...any suggestions or comments are welcomed :) Also is it better if I spend more money on my cpu or on my motherboard...

Get the clarkdale and focus on a good motherboard thats gonna get you on the 2:8 divider and high bclock. So far that is only the gigabyte and evga options.

cool newegg has the intel core i5-660 clarkdale with new cpu w/intel graphics...or should i get just the core i5-650 clarkdale...not too much difference...

Well are you gonna join team havoc again and go sub-zero? If so the extra multiplier will help. If not, then just save the money and get the 650. You'll max either out on air before you hit the blcock wall.

As far as the intel graphics, both chips graphics part runs at 733mhz so no difference. Is this for benching or an htpc build?

650 or 660 are both good choices for boints 60 easy in wprime and ud6 is the mem champ so far but I know sham and raja are working on the 2:8 for the evga boards

Rogue for bointing I would defintiely say go i5.

If you are looking for a great all around rig though, if you are going to go core-eye, than you should really spend the extra $100 and go with an X58 platform. New boards are coming out with USB/SATA 3 which means a lot of high end boards are dropping in price (You can find used Classifieds in the low $300 now! not possible a couple of months ago)

The reason X58 costs more than P55 is getting a good quality board (if you dont mind used, you can get great X58 boards for under $200) RAM will cost you the same despite needing an extra stick for X58, because performance wise you need MUCH faster ram on the P55 setup. source

As an AMD guy that really believes in that intangible "desktop snappiness" of the AMD architecture, I was VERY impressed with my X58 which I have not been impressed wit hthe desktop performance of an Intel chip since PIII

the 920's are ruling the bot these days ..... and with good air 4.4 is doable ..... maybe a bit more if you live up north. With an air cooler though just about any x58 board will get you to where you are going. No sence in spending big bucks on a board that you are not able to tap the potencial of.

Now if you are looking @ water and dice that changes the landscape and the high end board would reap you benefits

Good luck

Neromancer I know what you are talking about but I can tell you i7 @ 4.7 with an SSD = the fastest desktop preformance I have ever exsperienced

Rogue, I have the 670 already inbound so you could get a different cpu and we could trade cpu's when ur done.
