Cheap Arse Bench Station 101

Well after days upon weeks of contemplating which bench station to get I finally convinsed myself to go with the $300 Dimas-Tech Station. I wasn't too happy with this decision as I have better things to spend my money on than that, like more hardware! Thanks to Jody aka 3oh6 I went the cheap, ghetto route. He gave me the idea and I put a tweak to it. I added me some built in handles. The custom cut one could have been a little better but I didn't have a router and had to use my dremel. It wouldn't have been a true ghetto build without a little ghetto work on it now would it have been?

Material used:

$10 - 12" x 18" bamboo cutting board from Wal-Mart
9 - 1 1/4" 6/32 screws I already had
27 - 6/32 nuts
4 Lian Li billet feet off my case I had laying around in the closet
1/2" Neoprene I got off eBay for $8.99 for a 1' x 2' piece

I'll let the pictures speak the rest. :D

My neoprene is still in the process of being shipped to me but pretty much I cut a piece the size of the mobo and stick it between the bamboo block and mobo and should have a tight seal across the whole mobo preventing condensation if there ever happens to be any. I will have to drill a few more new holes for when I put my Classified on it.

They have various colors of them there. Or if you like there are other manufacturers out there that make some nice feet. They are more expensove here.

right on, that is exactly my setup except with MDF instead of the uber cool cutting board. nice idea BTW. the feet are too fancy for me...i just use another sheet of armacell.

welcome to the world of cheap and easy benching. no back plates, no insulation on the back side, no problems

Well I had the feet sittin around doing nothin. I came up with the bamboo cutting board idea yesterday when I was at Wal-Mart with the girl shopping. I might cut it dwon some more to get rid of some of the sides. Dunno yet. Waiting on my new PSU to get in. We'll see. If so I will get more pics posted.

how did you thread the standoffs in?? just into the wood?

also did you just use a couple standsoffs stacked?

hahaha, ahhh man...i thought i got away with it. i remember thinking i was going to be making noise but completely forgot i would stink the place up with that sweet smell of burning MDF. a couple days before i lost my drill bit and was actually using a dry wall cutting bit to drill with...hence the extra smoke and burning MDF smell.

that is great someone still remembers that, definitely one of those moments when you know you are truly at a benching competition
