Tunning up 965XE for 24/7 use

Finally have my main rig all sorted out after the big crash.

Turns out it was an SSD that was going out in the Raid. That makes 3 MTRON PRO's that have gone out, out of 9 total, so after a bit over a year its a 30% failure rate :( Good thing is they have a 5 year warranty for replacement.

So the main rig is now setup on the Dimas Tech bench table.

Core I7 965XE
EVGA Classified
2x EVGA 9800gx2's
6gb of Dom 1600 RAM
7x 32gb MTRON PRO SSD's with ARC-1231ML controller
Jinu SS Phase
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

In pre testing this chip on LN2 I was able to hit 5.0ghz and could prolly go just a bit higher, but no real reason to as HWBOT is to loaded with ES chips and cherrys to make any OC attempt worth while.

I settled with 4.5ghz OC on LN2 at SS Phase temps and setup the rig.

It runs great and supper fast with the Raid :)

I did end up backing the OC down to 4.2ghz for better stability but I feel I can get this back up to 4.4ghz or 4.5ghz stbale for 24/7 so looking for input on the OC if you guys have any :)

Here is a screem of the current settings

I think those co's are just voltage floozies Bill and may need more VTT for stability. Hard for me to say being so new to the i7 scene and having a do.

Yeah I am thinking I may need to go up to 1.55 vcore for the higher OC's

Prolly so. Those C0's sure ain't no D0. There are some but it is rare. I am blessed as a vcore BIOS setting of 1.35 gets me 4.315ghz. Stressed in Prime95 I am at 1.27-1.28v with my 920. This is of course with Vdroop. Without I could get away with a BIOS setting of 1.28 or so. I think you should be happy with 4.2ghz.

I am pretty happy with the 4.2ghz and tbh I really don't think going any faster will make much of a dif.

I still want to tweak it tho., but this isnt no 920 D0 sissy chip, its a full blown 965XE Fat Boy ready to rock with unlocked multi's for 8 threads powering down the street making Harley noises. I scare myself sometimes :scared:

That was my understanding as well. D0s do not clock any better just do it with less volts.

But not something I have researched either.

Ok just to make it clear as there seems to be a little confusion...

This is a 965XE C0/C1, and not a 920 D0 or anything else

Wild Bill! :morpheus:

I wasn't confused. I knew it was a 965 C0. I was just commenting that I was blessed to have a sweet ass i7. Sorry if i derailed it.

Crazy ass 24/7 system you got there Bill.

I guess I should wait and see what i7 brings to the table myself before I worry about deciding which PC is my 24/7 rig. I assumed my AMD setup with the 4850 for a nice quiet low power comparatively and still totally kick ass everything rig. Might want that video crunching power of the i7 though. Decisions decisions.
