They are.... and without Dice/LN2 you won't get far. I have tried everything to get mine just to 4Ghz, I made it to 3957Mhz but it wasn't stable at all... and anything over that won't boot at all.

Agreed' Punx, is that a cat in your avatar or some kinda Jackal or Haiena? (Either way, its better than :finger: ) :D

Can't be as much of a pain as my 5200 was. Hours upon days upon weeks upon months for a 3.1ghz clock. Stock clock was 2.6ghz. What a waste of time. I plan on going with an AMD build but my priorities are:
Part Time Job - check Classified - check New RAM - check F1 CPU Pot - soon to be check Crossfire - waitin on new lineup AMD Build - on done the line |

The biggest flaw with AM3 right now is the cpu power design, it's a bit weak for heavy overclocking.
|
I've noticed that too. Why don't they make beefy PWM's like for intel?

I read a few months ago that both Intel and AMD were pushing motherboard manufacturers for 200 Watt capacity.
From what I read about i7s actual consumption vs what is being reported, it could be that the Intel manufacturers listened. Here is a link to a newer article... http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu..._13.html#sect0 Phenom II 955 shows a 110W differnce between idle and load power usage. (Pretty hefty) The i7 systems show a 130 to 150+ W difference in idle and load usage. The differnce in idle and load usage is actually higher than the rating of the CPU. |
