Socket 2011 3930K Troubles......

OK guys need some suggestions here, I have the asus RIVE 2011 and Intel 3930K CPU with two 60GB Intel Cherryville SSD'S in a raid 0, with two 7970's and a corsair AX1200PSU and finally 16 GB of 1866 RipjawX memory.

Kinda a long story as I'm not sure what my problem is here, started off I had over clocked the memory with a preset in the bios of the RIVE board. After a while I noticed I was having issue's (BSOD) and upon reboot I realized the memory was under volted while runnig at over 2400 MHz. From this point on the memory was an issue so I would just run it at default with normal voltage, and it seemed OK.
So one day I decided the memory is covered so i'll warranty it witch Gskill did no issues, while my memory was gone I had a pair of cheap ass ram i got with a PSU purchase from egg heads. Its an 8 GB kit of Vulcan 1600 memory, so only two sticks in the RIVE. I read the manual on witch slots to use, install and rebooted to adjust the settings everything was fine. Then I thought this is free memory so I cranked it up to around 1866 and upped the voltage and boom I lost the boot sector on my raid. So I killed the power and removed the cheap memory thinking ill be ok when the new Gksills get here. Upon return i installed and still no boot sector, so ok i got to lose what was on them. I deleted the raid then rebuilt it, and now it wont see my damm CD drive so I can install the drivers for a raid?
Did I kill the memory controller on the CPU, or the board, the memory is brand new so I assume it is ok. I was thinking of re seating my CPU then in bios set the defaults n see what happens..............

Suggestions :ohcrap:

cleared CMOS no changes tried switching the Intel SSD'S to the other controller, cant see the damn CD player? ugh!!!!!! HELP!!!

I had an issue like this with an MSI board after to use powered down incorrectly. My issue was more with the pci-e bus. I had to reseat the CPU and let it sit for awhile without power plugged in. After putting everything back it powered fine with no issues.
But its odd that you you are having issues with your raid. Might just try breaking everything down and start with the basics.

Personally, I think it's a RIVE issue. Had the same problem on mine

What did you end up doing? Dumping it? I pulled the CPU and all connections, it is very dusty so i may wash it off.............or burn it. I may RMA the board then dump the cpu and use the mem fawk it all!

MaadDaawg 06-26-2013 03:52 PM

I have a 3960 processor and it still ran 3D benchs at 5.4 - 5.5ghz on SS. I tried to sell both but it didn't sell even at far less than I paid, so I'm thinking about putting into a gaming rig - have no idea yet how fast it will go on water :P

my 3930 does 4.8 24/7 and benches everything at 4.9
Got it off Duke, think he said it only did 5 or 5.1 cold so never benched it cold personally, bought specifically for a 24/7 platform.
Have to say I will never go back to 4 cores and look forward to the 8 core Hassy suposidly to be released third quarter next year and will be a Tick/shink from my understanding
So far the best gaming platform I have had to date, and with Crysis 3 actually utilizing the cores availible I have to think gaming is heading towards utilizing more cores

Sorry to hear about your board Philly :ohcrap:

That blows man

GFDuke 06-27-2013 01:45 PM

Yea Witchie 5.1 on SS. I never went LN2 with it. I don't think it would matter.

Witchdoctor 06-27-2013 02:16 PM

Still running strong bro .........

Got an RMA in the mail, I was gonna reformat with another board then put my SSD'S back in and see but already had a number so.......
Your correct WD im playing BF3 on an Ivy bridge with two 580's, and its a world of difference compared to the SB-E. I'm not sure if its everything is so different but, I get stuttering when im being shoot? My 7970's never had a issue with the game, I may put them in this and see. I love BF3 but this set up makes me want to not even play no more.........Is there a BF3 patch for SLI micro stutter? I never had this issue before that I can recall, as I ran these cards prior to getting my 7970's. I was leaning towards getting rid of it, now I may keep it and sell my IB board. I got the AsRock Extreme 6 it seems OK, but nothing noticeable to speak of. Got the stock cooler on the 3570K

Yeah if I can ever make it to Buffalo from here I may do some D ice runs to see what i can get out of it, just so much else going on right now.

Witchdoctor 06-28-2013 08:54 AM

yea I came from a 2600K , night and day, BF3 does well splitting the duty between cores, no patch I am aware of for SLI, but never had the issue and I ran 2x 580's prior to the Titans .... ?

yea for gaming more cores = smother game play.

GFDuke 06-28-2013 10:38 AM

I run a 3770K @ 4.6, a single ssd and one GTX680 @ stock and I have never gotten stutter. I really see no need for SLI playing BF3. Even Crysis plays smooth as hell on this setup. It sounds like you might want to change video card drivers.

Witchdoctor 06-28-2013 12:17 PM

yea that could be it,

I know FarCry 3 had some sli profiles availible

I'm on my second driver's may try again, every time im in the game as soon as I get shoot it like delay reacts (the only way to explain it) like its lagging hard. I'll disable SLi see if it helps.

PhIlLy ChEeSe 06-30-2013 04:40 AM

OK so far I used the 4.11 from 2012 same effect also the newest Nvidia betta drivers no go, only thing i can think of that could be an issue(im sure there could be others). Is im putting the drivers on a separate HDD not on the SSD the OS is on, not sure if this is the cause? But my SSD only has so much room and I want to keep 10GB free fer wat not stuff.
Thoughts suggestions, opinions................ thanks all!

PS gonna get the latest approved drivers an try them on the same SSD. Unless I get a better suggestion.

GFDuke 06-30-2013 01:35 PM

I would think the drivers have to be installed on the Os drive. and they really are not that big to take up a lot of room. What size SSD are you running?

ThreeDhero 07-10-2013 12:52 PM

I would tell them you want a board of equal or great value and youre being impacted daily by not having a PC. Or a full refund for the amount of the board sounds like bullshit to me man I'd bring the hammer down.

I have yet to get a reply, it just blows!!! I'm thinking of just putting a fan over it.........

GFDuke 07-19-2013 10:03 AM

Did you try and pull the fan off the board for a sec and see if maybe it wasn't just hanging up/ Maybe its rubbing on something internally?

I didn't remove it as its got a bunch of screws through the board, but it spins freely I tried a few times to jump it to see if it would work but nothing. At this rate, its gonna be two months without that computer.
I think the writing is on the wall here , I have always had good service from them in the past!

Witchdoctor 07-19-2013 11:07 AM

I may be but that fan only runs when temps are calling it to run like the AsRock E11 ? But if you jumped it out with another power source I geuess that woulkd not come into play anyway :ohcrap:

what is the fan size

could you retro a 40MM of this VGA cooler

IDK, but yea there might be a profile for it in the bios. That's a thought.

PhIlLy ChEeSe 07-20-2013 02:00 AM

Here is there response, the fan worked fine when it left here " Thank you for your response. According to the repair history, the repair facility did not do anything to the north bridge. I would suggest trying to blow the dust out and check with the power connection with the fan on the unit. Please do let me know if the problem still persists."

ugh!

Thanks guys! I'll look in the bios, mine always was on before.

So I went and started to remove the fan assembly, NOT so easy as it is heat piped to every heat sink on it . So I only hand tightened the screws when I put them back. then went into the bios and adjusted the PCH as you out lined. BOOM working!!!!! :clapping:

Funny when we know more than the techs at the manufacturer.
