Got an email from the egg - be the first to buy the new 680, buy now...

but...

They don't have them :taunt: assholes want you to buy a new cpu and mobo in anticipation of the new card

Gunslinger 03-21-2012 03:30 PM

waiting for non-reference here....

DOM 03-21-2012 03:57 PM

I won't be getting one unless I sell my 7970 or a kid lol

It's a joke fufu I won't sell my kids for anything... When you become a dad you'll know how much they can be a pita some times but you'll love them more then anything ;)

But I would of like to of seen the 780 pawn the 7970 :P

MaadDaawg 03-22-2012 04:55 AM

Sell the kid DOM, your savings grow exponentially through the ensuing years  40 grand a year that would have gone for college would buy you some pretty nice hardware dude :D

Unfortunately, just joking - yes they're a PITA, and yes, they're ungodly expensive, but whey they're yours they're worth every bit of it :)

Besides, who would buy them

BenchZowner 03-22-2012 05:12 AM

$499 ex. vat.
not bad ( terrible if you consider the fact that it wasn't supposed to be the high end card initially ).

1848MHz @ LN2 by Vince already :D

MaadDaawg 03-22-2012 07:35 AM

Ok, now that I just go to the egg and search I see them, the link I had must have been torqued.

Stream processors? I thought that was an AMD thing? Whatever happened to CUDA cores?

Like BZ, I had thought this was an introductory model with the flagship to follow months from now... has that changed? Last I read, the top dog was going to be a 660 Ti or some other such nonsense :Dizzy:

DOM 03-22-2012 07:59 AM

That's another reason not to buy this 680 for global it might be short lived

Witchdoctor 03-22-2012 08:41 AM

So the thinking here is it is a bastardized 780 ........ much like the 480 release ?

DOM 03-22-2012 09:22 AM

:wtf2:

Did NVIDIA Originally Intend to Call GTX 680 as GTX 670 Ti?

punx223 03-22-2012 09:33 AM

meh its all speculation brothers.... it is a beastly ass card with lots of performance... and when the non ref models drop they should be even better :)

DOM 03-22-2012 09:46 AM

yeah i know just sucks where getting screwed paying premium price for a mid range card :P

this is why i cant bench global i wont have a home to live in :rofl

but if they came out with "780" i think AMD would quit like they did on desktop cpus :ohcrap:

oh well ill just get older high end cards and dont have to pay premium price...

like my 7970 hasnt been juiced and the time i get to put it on ln2 there outdated

Neuromancer 03-22-2012 09:47 AM

Since when is $500 a "midrange" computer part?

It's a top performer when its 2GB vram is not hindrance (very rarely) and its priced right up there with the most expensive cards available.

Sounds like a "high end" card to me.

damn wish i never gave my damn soul to the devil when i was born!
or i'd sale my soul on ebay or something hehe

If you got no soul to sell, sell your body to rich old women :D Might even pay better

Not in that way.

The 780 will make the 680 look like a 560 Ti in comparison to the GTX 580.
The difference between the two will be massive ( those two should've been 660 Ti & 680 ).
Just bear with the numbers:
48 ROPs vs 32 ROPs
128 TMUs vs 128 TMUs
2304 SPs vs 1536 SPs
384bit vs 256bit
3GB vs 2GB
+ some compute features unique to the 780 ( GPGPU )

Can't tell when they'll launch it.
Could be anytime this year.
Could be June... July... August... September... October... November... aaaand... December.

PhIlLy ChEeSe 03-22-2012 12:28 PM

Wont be soon, they want to suck up the extra gravy, will still be a few weeks before this are readily available like the 7970'S. There all whores for money both teams!

Yea ..... looks to be the same release cycle then

8 months at best on top

Actually this will workout decent for me, being I am in the midst of moving I am hoping to be ready to bench by then and in the interim take Doms approach beating retro cards to the brink .............

Think one or two of the 780's will have to be on my Christmas list :)

Neuromancer 03-22-2012 03:35 PM

Havent seen any clocking results yet.

If it is a poor clocker, you can expect the 685 or 780 or 680ti x2 + SX69 edition as soon as they get the wafers ironed out.

GPU Boost should be better next time around I hope. Really 5%, thats a boost? why not scrub boost and just sell it at those clocks? Fricking retarded

DOM 03-22-2012 04:38 PM

They already hit 1800+ on ln2 can't get the link right now but it passed 3dmark11

But only by Vince, just like the clocks achieved by Andre and Shamino on 7970 have not been touched by anyone else........we should wait and watch....

punx223 03-22-2012 08:26 PM

Ive already had 2 samples to over 1300 on air man, theyre not bad clockers.... the only bitch part is there is no way to set a hard clock, it all is offsets and runs from a reference point of the voltage/load, so you will definitely need Precision X to make it run well, but even then im sure better software may show up in the future that allows for even more voltage overhead.

BenchZowner 03-23-2012 02:10 AM

I'm sorry to inform you guys but....

GTX 680 @ 1.9GHz - 3D Mark11 WR by Vince

They've also hit 2GHz.
Result should be published soon ;)

A point well remembered before jumping in :D

BenchZowner 03-23-2012 03:29 AM

If you can, wait for non-reference models.
( for LN2 obviously, for 24/7 usage the stock cards are perfect )

Hmm... terribly efficiency though. I except someone to come along and beat that soon.

7970 is right there are 1690 MHz (280 points lower score), so if 680 is more efficient than 7970 it should be nabbing first place with only 1500-1550 MHz.

It is, only because of the tesselation options in CCC. The 7970 scores with tess modified are not HOF eligible, unlike the 680 results.

I wouldn't sweat the efficiency, you know he's probably got backups that are more in line with the clocks. :D

BenchZowner 03-23-2012 12:05 PM

As we stand, 3D Mark11 isn't a safe benchmark.
ATi users can abuse it ( CCC Tessellation force off :p ), while the nVIDIA users run the bench as it was designed to be run.

Neuromancer 03-23-2012 07:21 PM

Thanks gunny and BZ. im a n00b and didnt know that :)

*But thats all part of tweaking right, like LOd in 01?

It depends on your POV.

LoD in 2001SE isn't reducing the initial processing the VGA needs to do, it reduces the accuracy of the output quality stage.
Tessellation Off simply changes the load the application puts on the card, and the result is totally different levels of stress for the cards ( tess on vs tess off ) and different output ( very different amount of pixels per scene ).

Even if both companies had a tessellation level switch, I'd still vote on running the benchmark as it's supposed to be run, with tessellation on and at the levels FutureMark chose.

You can see the difference Tessellation level altering makes ( or on vs off ) in Heaven 3.0
Run it at 1920x1080 4xAA 16xAF DX11 Tessellation Extreme all quality settings at max, with fraps on.

Once you're in the benchmark, let it run as is.
Notice the framerates.
Now click on "Tessellation" on the top left side of the screen, and play with the level, factors & size and look at the Fraps framerate counter going nuts ;)

Neuromancer 03-24-2012 07:01 AM

Roger that. I was running heaven just as you described last week with 3x580s I did not think to play with lower tess levels though. Will play with it a bit when I test this x79 board out next week.
