Thermaltake Benchmarking Challenge

Hello Guys,

Thermaltake is interested in running a Benchmark competition soon on your forum exclusively for registered Overclockaholics members.

We were considering something along the lines of a low clock or clock limited contest.

We would like your feedback as to what benchmark would best interest you for the competition.

Prizes will be provided by Thermaltake for the top spots at the end of the submission period.

Please discuss.

DrNip 07-14-2011 11:18 AM

Love the low clock idea. Contest are always geared towards overclcocking. How about underclocking. Low BCLK contest please.

Tt-USA Enthusiasts 07-14-2011 11:24 AM

we are open to any challenge you would like. Instead of shoving a contest down your throat you tell us how you would like to compete. We'll gather up the top 3 ideas and you guys can decide what bench from there :)

then you have fun!

and win some cool stuff :)

and which benchmark would you like to see be the focus of this event?

Deux 07-14-2011 11:54 AM

IMO, there are only two benches that really work for low clock challenges, SPi 32M and 3D01, and even in the case of 3D01 a cap on nature is needed.

i agree with you there, something like a 1300 or 1400 Nature cap would be required along with a CPU frequency limit as well.

But thats pending that #D01 is the bench you would like to compete with.

Or we can do a Clock limited Spi 32M to see how well you can strip down and tweak your OS.

Lets get creative and most importantly have fun learning how to squeeze every bit of performance from your system.

kikicoco1334 07-14-2011 12:08 PM

i really like the 3D06 personally and 2D based i like the Super Pi 1 and/or 32 as well as the wPrime

well 3D benchamrks have alot more variables and therefore alot more to deal with rule wise..

lets see what everyone wants.

kikicoco1334 07-14-2011 12:35 PM

yeah sure! i am game both ways
thank you

Thank you for the feedback, and I look forward to seeing what you guys can do and how creative you can be.

plus Im all about getting some cool Thermaltake stuff into the hands of enthusiasts.

No underclocking competition please. Something like a 5.0Ghz Clock limited competition in superpi32m or 3DM01 would be great.......

I like that idea :)

kikicoco1334 07-14-2011 07:25 PM

correct me if i am wrong but isn't sandy faster at the same speed than the x58 based?

also can we have like random drawing as well?

Yup it is.......

HybridChiller 07-14-2011 09:49 PM

2d benching with limited Clock speed on cpu and mem.

Not on mem man, :P. Though ofcourse if its CPU limited then it all becomes a playground for the memory, but then you might put a cap on the OS too, :P

BenchZowner 07-14-2011 10:19 PM

2 ideas:

1) A multiple benchmarks competition ( pointing system for each ranking, and total pts determine the winner )
e.g. 3D Mark 2001SE, CPU Limit 5GHz and nature cap at 1400 fps
SuperPi 32M, CPU Limit 5GHz
PC Mark 2005, 1 SSD only and 5GHz CPU Limit.

2) One benchmark per prize, or category ( e.g. SuperPi 32M, prize #1 = fastest 2600K @ 5GHz, prize #2 = fastest LGA1366 Core i7 @ 4.5GHz, prize #3 = fastest LGA1156 Core @ 4.5GHz, prize #4 = fastest superpi ( no clock & platform limits )... etc

Love idea #2 BZ, makes it much more accessible.

2D would open it up to more people even if 3D had a cap. Please no 01 contest. That seems to be what it is everywhere not to mention a contest talked about here since November. If you do 3D do something different like Vantage, 11 or hell even 05. I say bring out an air bench contest. Forget LN2 for a change. Maybe make it a 2D Sandy contest. I say Sandy because it is the latest.

Vivi 07-15-2011 02:47 AM

01 with nature cap ftw.

we need to find the right cap tho.

if you make nature cap too low ATi will just win without any contest. if you make it too high nvidia will win.

find a balance where ati and nvidia can compete on same level.

i think that would be around 1200 -1250 nature cap if you want ati and nvidia to compete equally.

ati wont get close to that nature cap but it will score so high in the other tests scores will be close

+1 !

Just trying to think outside the nature capped 01 box, rofl.

Patch 07-15-2011 04:52 AM

Do sandy bridge 3Dmark06 or 3Dmark05 with a 5 Ghz cpu cap.

Air only on card and CPU.

Use ANY card you want as along as there are at least 75 hwbot single card air submissions. (or 100?)

Winner is the guy who has the highest single card air hwbot hardware rank.

If several people rank hardware spot #1 for their card, then "flip a coin" for the winner.

Broad participation. Fun. And will grab gobs of boints for your team.

Just like I was thinking.

Why's it gotta be about Intel all the time? How about making it a little more AMD friendly.

Don't misunderstand me, I'd gladly compete against any Intel platform. I just can't get to the 5 gig plateau.

Scotty, don't misunderstand me - I don't have any AMDs to run  except for a real old Turion (sp?) from a computer I bought my daughter 10 years or so ago rofl

Mr.Scott 07-15-2011 11:35 AM

LOL.....I understand now. :D

Witchdoctor 07-15-2011 12:05 PM

I got rid of all my AMD stuff.............

Looking at 1090 and a 965 though .......... they are almost to inexpencive to ignor, and with the new rev breating life back into these chips could be fun .......

College tuition has been very very cruel to my benching funds :ohcrap:

955 BE and 965 BE FTW. 955 is worth more. You can pick them both up for roughly $109-$129.99.

Neuromancer 07-15-2011 02:01 PM

I like BZs idea... with multi benches and points assigned for placement in each category :)

Mafio 07-16-2011 11:50 PM

benchzowner's #2 idea looks good.
please don't do something where ONLY sandy bitch can compete.

DrNip 07-17-2011 02:45 AM

Usually contest are with the newest tech. Sorry.

While that may be true, it doesn't have to be. Especially when the OP asked YOU what parameters you would like for the contest. ;)

DrNip 07-17-2011 02:59 AM

I'm fully aware of that but lets be realistic. The majority have sandybridge while it appears two that have posted in this thread don't. What would make a better contest catering to the majority or the couple? I wish there was a contest that could make everyone happy as well as everyone compete. There is nothing more than I would like to see than an AMD contest here. If and when there is one count me in.

MaadDaawg 07-17-2011 03:22 AM

how about limiting to 478 sockets with AGP and K6 procs? That would be unigue :P

Any single socket Intel platform is fine with me. Don't own AMD and can't affort to buy it.

Run all 3Dmark 3D benches, add the points together - highest points win.

Regardless of what we do the reality is one of 4 or 5 people are gonna win anyway :D

I'm not un-happy about anything. As a matter of fact, I'm quite happy just being a member here with the privileges that I have. I was just expressing my opinion is all.
Whatever is decided on will be fine. If I can compete, I will. If not, oh well, maybe next time. I'm good with that. :)
