3D Rev.1 DICE GPU pot, done cheap
Been working on this project for the last 2 weeks or so. Yes I'd love to have a Tek-9 fat but @ $220  I can't afford it right now. So I thought I'd try seeing what I could whip up. Before this I had no clue how to solder copper only the stuff I'd done with an iron. I used a pen torch I got for $10, a few shims of copper from home depot and an old CPU waterblock I had to grind down with a rotary tool. The block is about 1/4" thick with a 1/2" stand off in the middle, the total cost was around $35 to make it . Plan on using the pot with DICE within the week. I want to see what kind of temps the pot will hold with and without load. Not expecting to much out of it but we'll see lol

Any pics of the internals?
Love it when people use homemade pots :D look forward to some results |
Ghetto pot FTW ....
looks great 3DH .......... nice job , I'm in for the results |
No internals sorry man, at the time I didn't think anyone would really care to see them.
Lawl Ghetto sounds way to pricey for this project  |
Home Brew FTW homie :)

In all seriousness, that seems to be a good build you have. If it'll hold temps where they need to be, you can give your competition the shaft with it. There I go again with the bad jokes... :D OK.... I've been wanting to build one myself as of late but with the cost of copper pipe and the way they sell it (By the stick / 20ft sticks of 2' pipe @ $270.00+), I'll have to rely on luck to do it. Hoping to find a few scrap pieces of pipe to do it with but the big thing would be to construct a base. I have access to a 25 ton press for doing some of the work and that helps. Have an idea what I could do but won't know how well it will work until I actually build it and test it. |
that looks nice bro!
i am working on a pot project myself man for cpu tho |
Awesome work there. That's the best part of benching.

You can honestly say you did it and the success will only inspire you to go further. Good luck with the pot man and show us what it can do - I'm sure you'll get some good numbers from it. |
I was able to test the my GPU pot out the other day works better than I thought. Best load temp with my 260gtx was -50c under DICE. Sorry to report the session didn't go well at all, first I was using my 9500GT and 9600GT on my P55 rig I run 05 which gave me scores of about 1200. I'm not sure if both these cards had a cold slow bug or what also maybe the fact that I've only had my cards @ 0c when benching. So I decided to move on to my 260gtx and 4-way with a 920. The card acted a lot better under cold but took me 2 hrs to figure out I needed hardly any voltage to get the OC's I was used to seeing under water. I found out my 9600 had a CBB of -40c with CB -50c. All in all it was the worst DICE session I've had so far :Dizzy: really made me feel like an Epic noob. Guess I have a lot to learn about subzero GPU benching....
Here's some pics of the session. http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/6...c04247k.th.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/8...c04251b.th.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/1314/dsc04256sm.th.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/4763/dsc04253u.th.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us Any thoughts or tips I could try next time from the pros would be a great help ! The downside to pot is lack of mass I have to fill it after every run but at the price of $35 I can live with that. |
