Toshiba Qosmio X505
Not a review as I have not used it much since it's arrival this morning. So far I am impressed with the quality look and feel. The harmon/kardon speakers are outstanding for a laptop and the keyboard is very light and responsive.
After removing the fugly stickers that every manufacturer pastes on their products I took a few pictures. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC00623.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC00622.jpg Here is a preview of the HDMI connected Sony lcd tv...this will be wonderful once I get it set up and organized. http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC00626.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...9/DSC00624.jpg Of course I could not resist running at least one benchmark...:taunt: http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...06-default.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...06-clocked.jpg http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...Experience.jpg |

Never thought about benching my laptop. |
I'm so frustrated with the P67 that I'm just going to bench this awhile. :taunt:

omg rickss
that's so what's up! |

Rick's late night laptop benchathon...:taunt: I had to extend desktop to TV to run Vantage/Heaven...this laptop does not support 1280x1024 resolution.
|
Looks like your having a lot of fun :)
When my amd system went down, all I had was my Dell 14z laptop to depend on. Had it hooked up to my 46" LCD via HDMI and did everything I needed it to do. Having a solid laptop is a good thing. ;) |
Yep, this is going to be so fine when I get it all together. :good:
|
nice laptop
what did they deliver it by horse.... thought your where never going to get it lol |
shit, this laptop smokes a stock qx6700 + 8800gtx Ultra
|
that's what i did when i first got my i7 laptop :rofl
|
Thinking of just going this route for the laptop... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833124385
I don't know much about wireless but I assume you just take one of these and connect through your existing router? This would be much simpler for me I believe. No gaming or such use for this, just general internet surf and online bill pay duties. Any tips or thoughts? |
What am I looking at here? I thought core parking only applied to i7 cpu's...:Dizzy:
Enabled - http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...eparkingon.jpg Disabled - http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...parkingoff.jpg |
That is one sick lappy bro...........
Looks like it turned out to be more than you origionally were looking for :ohcrap: There goes the budget :Dizzy: |

Just a short update - Laptop is still the most used pc in the house and still running strong. I did pick up a bug on the original OS tho and ended up throwing Vista 64 on it because I did not create a back-up dvd. I now have a recovery disc in hand but will not swap until the Vista slows down. All in all, a great investment for me so far.
|
I hear Rom loves his IIRC.
My ROG laptop is my most used rig lately for gaming and surfing :D |
I still use the old x58 for dailey and my P67 for gaming
Have a net book I use for my e-mail though I love the ease of typing on a rediculously small chinese keyboard. I makes for some interesting reading or should I say decoding ........... Glad the lappy is working out bro ............ |
How much was this sucker again?

Question for you gurus here...If I add a ssd to this laptop using it for the OS and the original hdd for storage will I notice anything measurable in everyday surfing/use? I was considering a new i7 laptop, but there isnt really anything wrong with the current other than I wish it were a little more snappy loading pages and such. Would a ssd make a difference in that respect? What is the smallest ssd I could get away with and still realize a benefit? :Dizzy: (Or would I just end up with a laptop that booted really fast and performed just as before lol?)
|
Web pages would still be bandwidth dependent. That being said you browser would open faster and dialey desktop duties would be instantanious. Your overall experience would be much more satisfying
TBH everyime I am working on any machine that does not have an SSD I find myself suicidal. I am not really sure how we survived the mechanical / Jarrasic computing age  I have to think it would be a no brainer upgrade, Got my son a Lenovo Y580 for Xmas with one of the new hybrids, these seem to be a nice comprimize of speed and strorage room as it is a 1TB with 32mb SSD cache goes from cold to usable in 18 seconds and opes shit up quick and comes out of sleep to usable in 2 seconds, so if you never really turn it off per say you are always two seconds away from hitting the buy button ........ :ohcrap: This is an epic drive, I have two of them, if you can find them in stock, not sure on the 840 flavors as they just released. On paper they are better but reading mixed reviews on them make me a bit gun shy Hard to beat at 74 cents a GB with image software http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820147138 |
Thanks buddy - I'm going to test this out on the Vaio...just stuck a 60GB OCZ in the primary and moved the 200GB over to the secondary slot. This may be a good test to see if I want to mess with the Qosmio. Guess I just load the OS on the ssd and just format the hdd for storage?
|
sata 2 or sata 3 ?
If it is sata 3 I think it will be night and day  |
Just got the Vaio up and running with the ssd. Photobucket works at lightspeed hehe...think I will order a 256GB Samsung for the Qosmio. Cold boots to desktop in 20 seconds and shuts down in 3 seconds.

Nice........
it will be like a new machine .....:) |
Based on what I have seen thus far I'm ready to open up the Toshiba. I have another 60GB OCZ ssd sitting here...think that will do no more than I use this laptop for? Still can't believe how fast I can browse thru my Photobucket albums haha! :clapping:
|
Instant gratification FTW .........
|
Hell, I'm going to throw one in the netbook just for giggles! :taunt:
|
Hmm...ssd shows up in bios, but not shown in Windows install screen with the Toshiba. Bad ssd you think?
EDIT: Yep...bad ssd. Swapped the one in the Vaio and proceeding with OS install now. I'll put a 30GB back in the Vaio. |
you got lastest firmware on it, my old ocz,s used to aways drop out
switched to the sammy's and they have been bullet proof thus far |

First OS install was a fail...something was blocking it from fully booting. This was the recovery DVD's from Toshiba. I did a quick install of a bogus Win 7/64 and had to go hunting for a WiFi driver, but got it going now. I can say it is snappier now...will probably end up ordering a larger ssd in the end.

Rickmiester, ?????, Did you need to download Toshiba drivers after a fresh install or are you using an install disk from Toshiba?
Edit, read above, durr, so Toshiba site have driver downloads available or wut? My brother wants to install a fresh Win7 os from me but we wondering if the lappy will burp. He don't have any toshiba install/recovery disks. Satelite C675D-S7101 |
