REX LN2 NB?
Put a pot on top where the waterblock goes?
Or cut up the chipset heatsink apparatus to isolate the NB? |
lol i am just flat out putting LN2 and DIce on the damn NB heatsink lol

But mainly I think you dont want to uber freeze the VRMs... |
Condensation on the VRMs can't be good.
|
For resale reasons, you might want to take the old heatsink off whole... and take sinks off a a dead mobo or something instead as well...

yeah i just place more orders on the Design Kneaded Rubber Art Eraser lmao  i just ordered 12 should i get more? |
12 is plenty.. If you ordered the jumbos... I ordered a box of them after getting 5 or 6 locally. Still have not opened the 12
If you use vaseline too you will go through it quicker though (throw out eraser that gets PJ on it) |
I've done it both ways on various mobos.
Really it depends on how cold the NB can tolerate. If the REX NB can tolerate less than -120 to -150, then I'll isolate it. But if it bugs at -30 to -40 anyway, it would be much better to leave the heatsink intact. |
I had good results with pretty high temps, ~-20 if i recall. I just put crushed dry ice in the nb pot and no acetone

remount the heatsink...our friends from asus......they're nb is @ 35C ...ln2 gas + fan ..directed towards the nb...settles @ 35C
6.3ghz benchable....just awesome seeing hpnotiq doin it extreme |
Mine hangs out in the mid 30's right now with a pretty heavy overvolt just using the Swiftech waterblock. It's not that the NB is hot. It's that it's not cold.
Already gone the conservative route. Now it's time for the non-conservative route. ;) |

holy fsb batman

Looks pretty imaginative and dyi-ish but it looks awesome ! If it worked, that's what counts.
Might want to upgrade to a SATA HDD or a SDD. PATA's slow you down Now Crusty there... that thing looks saweet :D |

holy balls dude! 685FSB! |
Best way with REX and sub zero NB is to remove that whole POS assembly, and individually sink the mosfets around the socket and bolt NB cooler/water chiller block/whatever directly to the NB. You'll get a wider variation of mounting holes (pattern). The stock assembly sucks and has design flaws when the board flexes it shorts on some smd caps + its horribly inefficient . Crusty has got it goin on.
|
wooooooo someone did short his mobo...lol
thanks for info :D i just got the board..and an e8600/e8500 so your tips gonna help alot..heatsinks are way cheap :D |
