Probably will get one of the DM6802b from Ebay. I'm not going below -50 Celsius right away.
Thanks for the help mates. EDIT: I bought this. |

EDIT: at least as low as -135C |
Accurate temps are not that important. As long as the probe is consistant it will do perfect for what we do. We aren't keeping meat or semen, we're chilling hardware.... and the temps between systems are going to be relative at best with any cooling anyway. ;)
... so pay no attention to how "accurate" the probe/thermo is. The purpose of using them anyway is to determine a cb/cbb threshold and monitor so the load handling of the cooling doesn't break down unchecked. |
So that one I got for $12.99 from Hong Kong should do fine.
What is cb/cbb? |
cb = cold bug
cbb= cold boot bug cb is when you are already running and the comp bugs out or locks at a certain temp <0 cbb is the point at which the pc will not post/boot below or at a certain temp. |
Yeah. It will work fine... as a means of judging temp changes
cb= cold bug (CPU freezes up) cbb= cold boot bug (Motherboard will not post) You are too fast FACE :) |

DUDE!!! that's a little too much! |
they are prety easy to find, just make sure you get a good reader and your golden. the first one I bought was not the greatest and only went to -45c just make sure you spend more now so you dont have to buy another one. cheaper isnt always beter especially when it comes to reading temps and stabilizing them. I used to get them off ebay or amazon. you can get bulk packs on ebay of the probes.
|
I bought the cheapest one I could find due to financial constraints....hopefully it goes beyond it's specs of -50C.
|
well at least if it only goes that far when benching if it never moves past -50c then you know you are colder ;)
|
When I can afford to get the LN2 delivered, I'll be able to afford a better thermometer too, I hope.
I am extremely happy with my chilling device today, I will go update the thread in a few. |

I haven't seen it go past -46 Celsius. I have since bought a dual probe thermometer off ebay new for $37.80. I will let you know how it performs after I get it. It is supposed to go to -200C. I need to get some LN2 though soon.
|
Got a link to that dual probe thermometer?
|
I edited it into the last post, just click on it.
|
That thermometer is the one i've been using for the last year.
It is as quick as a fluke but when i goes beyond -99.9 it has no decimals. Awesome Thermometer for the money paid. |
Awesome. So the temp keeps dropping with no decimals, I can handle that. How far have you seen it down to?
|
-196 with the proper thermocouple
With the cheap ones i use it shows max -169 but as i said it is due to the bad thermocouple |
Great to hear...it should be here this week.:)

Well I got mine and it works great. I put it under my tongue and it said 97F. It seems like a pretty good thermometer. Now my block measures ~4C warmer than the coolant itself, which seems more likely. Blocks at -18C right now and stays close to that under normal use.
The probes seem kinda flimsy though and they were not easy to insert in the slots. No big deal. |
Also got mine and the lowest I could get it to read with dice and acetone in the pot was -72c. It was with the pot on its own and not on a cpu so there was no load. If it stays consistent while dicing then I'll call it a good buy.
