EVGA X58 Classified "westmere" mod (messy)
 

After accidentally pluggin in the wrong iron and burning the top of the Chipset cooler plastic on the E762, I plugged in the correct iron n tried my hand at the simple westmere mod for this board. Hoping to pick up one of those X-Files chips soon :D .

MY eyes are not so good first thing in the morning (allergies) did you just remove the SMD in the first 2 pics and bridge the other with solder (3rd pic)?

Way to go Kal! How long did it take you to do, and more importantly, were any animals harmed during the production of this mod?

White stuff is WHITE electric tape (paint on). I had to pull some back to do the mod. The white comes off the board evenly and doesn't leave those little black chunks behind on every little resistor. When I finished I just painted more on.

No small animals were injured but the chipset block plastic has melted plastic angel hair now :D

Burning that plastic makes the board faster. = secret mod. ;)

I heard that the WM mod helps out on performance for all i7 chips btw. Might help you get closer to the edge with your other chips too. :thumbsup:

If there is any performance difference, I'll definitely notice and report back. Filling the dewars as we speak and Deanzo is inbound so maybe we can sweeze off a session on Sunday ;)

Doesnt appear worth it to clock westmere on the E762. RE3 may be the better clocker here. This chip is VERY VERY particular about voltages, anything 1mv out of place and she lets you know right away, UNFORGIVING. First date with 10L was interesting, 2nd date will be the teller as i haven't tweaked the final mhz out of the chip or timings/efficiency yet.

hi i have the same motherboard ( evga classified 4 way) with a x5650 and i cant get it to overclock at all ! the ram is ok did check them with memtest also boots up the first screen (with the ram and the cpu) and latter a get the post code error 75 ahci bios not installed no keyboard found keyboard error any help please

re-flash bios to x5650 support

Ya I went through your member list, and recognize many names from the days when XS was popular as well. Also notice most don't come round here anymore. Sad, when I first got here I thought these guys were around, oh well. :blink:

I don't do Facebag, don't even have an account. Guess I'm old school or just old.

Spend most forum time on OCN, but it's crowded with lots of young gamers and fanboys, and can get annoying.:argh:

I got away from the hobby for some time, now back to it. Collected all kinds of cool shit back in the day. Younger folks don't care or know about Thermalchill rads or San Ace fans ect... They use AIO coolers and the new stuff is so simple to OC.
There are some real enthusiast at OCN, but I'll be posting some stuff here as well. Hoping some are around to see/comment.
Also probably not so easy to get banned for joking around and minor bad language here.
