they ask for it coz they send a fresh box ?

I sent my chip and stock hsf in and received a full retail package back. Maybe if you don't send it in, you will get OEM style back.

Shoot. I shoulda kept my hsf. I don't have an air cooler and it would have been handy to have around.

I took maybe 5 minutes and I had a RMA number and email with instructions.

I've used the exact same info for 3 980X RMAs so far, no issues yet :shrug:

weird man, im on number 3 now and they told me its going to extra security land. they must know you are higher ranked then me haha :)

I can't tolerate the broken uncore on this current 980x.

Time to try a 6th.........I wish I never sold the 3rd one. Stellar is the enemy of good.

So in total, we've collectively spent approximately $15,000 on Intel 980x cpu's and approximately $10,000 on Xeon chips. I'd say we're candidates for some intel love, no?

What are the reasons you guys give for RMAs?

I've been trying to talk or chat for over a week, but I can't find time to do it during their stupid 7-5 o'clock business hours. I work hard and don't have a 1/2 hour to deal with these bozos during bankers hours.

RMA approved and my SIXTH attempt at a good 980x is en route.

Easiest RMA yet. Only asked a few questions to see if I knew how to troubleshoot. Asked him directly and he told me I didn't need to mail back the heatsink. :thumbsup:

has anyone RMA a beat up ihs ?
