Quad SLI Dilemna

I have my tri sli 285s hooked up with my 285 classy on my 4 way board but keep getting no screen and error 3E. I'm thinking with the new bios a59 this should work???

The quad sli bridge has a "top" and "bottom" position, but which effin way is "top"?? I've tried both positions with no change.

Any ideas?

Note: 3E is a test 8259-1 Mask, of course, that verifies 8259 Channel 1 masked interrupts by alternately turning off and on the interrupt lines.

Did that clarify it for anyone :D

Chuchnit 05-06-2010 02:54 PM

I thought shammy showed a pic of extra traces on the Classy cards to allow quad??? Lemme find that pic.

Hondacity 05-06-2010 02:54 PM

tried 1x285 classy + gtx285 ? just two video cards...

Kal-EL 05-06-2010 02:55 PM

If you have the GTX285 classys and the updated x58 bios, move the bios jumper on the cards to the normal GTX285 rom not the GTX295 rom.

MaadDaawg 05-06-2010 02:58 PM

yeah, I have the one classy on the 285 rom, but the other three are HC, not classies. Was hoping with the classy running on 285 mode now it would let me quad sli my 3 HCs with the classy

I put the classy card in the 4th position??

MaadDaawg 05-06-2010 03:04 PM

Ok , this is weird.

Just tried it again and got to code 00 = setup. No pic on the screen though ? :ohcrap:

Maybe I just need to jiggle things around a little :D

Thanks Cuch, I'll look as soon as I post this.

Got the system up and running, after a damn restore that put ATI drivers back into the system :arg: Problem is, the system is recognizing two 285s, one is one of the HC, the other is the Classy (I can tell by the default clock speeds) :ohcrap:

Hopefully your link will provide the answer - thanks bro :)

MaadDaawg 05-06-2010 03:54 PM

nah, can't see anything there that will help, but appreciate it bro ;)

Chuchnit 05-06-2010 03:54 PM

Dude I hate to tell you, but I think the answer is that it ain't gonna work. :( You need all Classified cards for 4-way cause they have extra traces in the PCB to make it work.

MaadDaawg 05-06-2010 04:22 PM

Dude, you may be right, but with the new bios even the classies are turned to 285 instead of 295 emulation. Plus, I had unofficial word that it may work. Very wierd thing is the only way I can get a screen is plug the dvi cable into the second card! Why it is reading 1 classie and 1 HC is beyond me ???

Rig looks sick though :D Took some pics but they're on my old blackberry that doesn't have internet service and I can't figure out how to get the memory card into my new one

Would still like to know what is the TOP and what is the BOTTOM so I can at least be sure I have the quad sli bridge on the right way :P

maybe tomorrow.....

MaadDaawg 05-06-2010 04:32 PM

yeah bro, that'd be cool if ya wouldn't mind. If anyway can tell me how, or that I'm wasting my time, Shammy'd be the man :D

ps. I had the bridge backward :(

Chuchnit 05-06-2010 04:33 PM

Done

MaadDaawg 05-06-2010 04:38 PM

Thanks :)

Just put the bridge in the correct orientation. Still only get a screen with the DVI in the second card, and still reads 1 Classy and 1 HC ?? Could it be reading the tri sli HCs as one card ???

I could only wish huh lol

Not sure buddy. Kal is the only one I know on here that played with four 285's at once.

MaadDaawg 05-06-2010 04:54 PM

Kal-EL 05-06-2010 05:32 PM

punx223 05-06-2010 06:39 PM

Would be easy if they were not still so spensive :(

Crazy man im still seeing 275s going for $200 used in forums all over the place.

Before I joined OCA I would say they were never worth it... now I am on a team that makes me push for boints and I get it. Its just another level .

that's what I thought too bro - what is it I could be doing wrong? Just noticed that one of the non PCIe slots is missing a jumper so I'll try putting one on and see if that helps ... came, umm.. from the factory this way ?

Kal-EL 05-07-2010 03:31 AM

Not sure how the jumper is setup but I reckon if it needs the jumper it could be the x-factor.

MaadDaawg 05-07-2010 03:46 AM

keep yr fingers crossed, and I'll let ya know :D

Wife home tonite... lots of cleaning to do before she arrives = uh ho lol

I have met the enemy, and the enemy was me

Don't know if the jumper helped or not, and let's just leave it as everything finally falling into place :D
