Do trimmers go bad?

I modded a card this morning. A 8800gt. I've done these before so i know had the solder points right but the card still wouldn't display. At post i got a long beep followed by 2 short beeps. If that means anything. I disconnected the trimmer and the card displayed no problem. Post beep was one short beep. I tried several solder points and they all gave me the same results. 1 long beep followed by 2 short ones. Thought i'd ask before i tried another trimmer.

Sorry if its a dumb question, but did you make sure the trimmer was @ max resistance between the legs you used?

GFDuke 04-04-2010 05:13 AM

Not a dumb question. I did. I turned the screw until it clicked. One time it actuallly worked fro a few secs and the voltage was reading 1.05. Then the monitor went squrrly and blue screened. Not BSOD. just a blue screen Stock is 1.10 on the 8800gt right?

Dentlord 04-04-2010 05:16 AM

Yeah 1.1v is right ... weird man, i guess try another one?

1k on the vgpu right?

GFDuke 04-04-2010 05:17 AM

Happy Easter

Dentlord 04-04-2010 05:20 AM

Happy Easter Bro's :)

Gonna try a hard mod on my 8800GTX 640 - that's the only reason I bought it, but not sure I've seen a hard mod on that particular card. Have google will travel I reckon

I checked for the hell of it and i was using a 1k. Dumbass. I just remembered i sent one of my 2 500 ohms out on a 8800gt. But it was too late i burned up the card with my soldering iron. Another dumbass move. I hate soldering traces. but i did manage to mod my GTs 640 with the one 500omh i have left that was on another card..benching comences.

Whats the max Vgpu you have put on your 8800gts 640? I'm at 1.50 atm.

Ok also. how do i get Riva Tumer to clock higher than 740? I can run 820 on Precision but its maxed out and i knw theres no way to tweak that. i know Riva can be unlocked but i've never done it. Currently over 31k on 3D05 and i'm just short of the gold.

Thanks buddy

Weird thing...When i try to enter max overclock i can only put in a single digit number. I can't enter 100. So i did what Farsky said in that post and entered 9 and my Max overclock is lower than the default max overclock. no matter what single digit i put in it lowers my max overclock from 770 (which is lower than Precisions that is 820) to 670 something. Any advise?

Downloading latest now and opening on my 24/7 rig......... stand by.

Under poweruser, Rivatuner\Overclocking\Global double click the empty right colum next to "Max Clock Limit" enter a number in there "500" for giggles. then double click the check mark on the left.

Its working for me.

HITandRUN 04-05-2010 06:19 AM

Yeah I had one going bad on me before. If you turn them too much they go bad sometimes but I never had a bad one right out of the box.
