Any point in waiting for a price drop?? Though I guess within a month it should drop to say its original 999$??? Or maybe wait for a new rev?? which will oc like rev A0/1???

GFDuke 03-16-2010 12:35 AM

Buy it, bench it, sell it. My plan. I pretty much never plan on keeping anything i buy. Except for my 3570. lol But then again that might change this time around. Time will tell. On its way.

Witchdoctor 03-16-2010 12:42 AM

What cha thinking Duke about a 300 dollar hit ???

Splig was saying something about a Bing discount with Tiger ???

This is so tempting ............ wish I had the funds to play .....

:argh2:

thebanik 03-16-2010 12:45 AM

In India, no overclocker buys a Extreme CPU, only stupid rich showoff guyz buy them who dont even overclock them, and those sort of guyz dont buy 2nd hand stuff.....To sell off a extreme CPU on Indian forums, have to take a 50% hit for sure.......

WD, if i turn it around fast enough possibly only a 150 - 200 dollar hit. I'll take one for the team though. Wheel & deal. Its what i do. Ferengi style. I actually made money on my 5970 and 2 - 5870's.

Banik, Ouch that sucks man. Even though the E-bay/PayPal route sucks the life out of your sale, its the best tool to turn around merchandise. But you're in a bad spot there man.

Witchdoctor 03-16-2010 01:14 AM

Yea I hear that but to maximize the bot carnage you have to redo all the 3D as well

that is time consuming. I would imagine though if the speeds are met and the extra threads it will sweep golds on all older cards and will need one to compete with the pending 480 and shore up 5870 numbers

All this will mandate holding on to this chip for at least two months I am thinking ?

GFDuke 03-16-2010 01:28 AM

Well yea its gonna take some time. Probably around 2 weeks if i stick with it. Unfortunately i don't have all of the harware that i've benched with. But i still do have 7 diff. cards to use on it. but only 2 SLI and no crossfire. I have no faith in the 480 series. But time will tell.

Witchdoctor 03-16-2010 01:53 AM

Well bro I am excited for ya bro ... you will have to keep us posted on the canabalistic properties of this chip as it sounds like it will eat the i900 series for lunch .....

thebanik 03-16-2010 02:13 AM

I am leaning on buying ebay ES chip, my brain says it would be foolish and will ruin me if it dies but my heart says thats what is needed to be on top of the game, and then it says dont pump more than 1.8V to be on the safer side, :p

Witchdoctor 03-16-2010 02:35 AM

LOL .......... 1.8 .... sickness

and here I am worring about 1.6 in a 920 ........... :ohcrap:

but I am only at -50C :wtfsign:

RomDominance 03-16-2010 06:36 AM

whats kewl is if I hit the refresh button on my browser, I can some how see the original price they entered in a the egg, $969
it shows it as 1149 and then when I click on it, its 1099 but auto notify....
really pays to wait on this fellas

Chuchnit 03-16-2010 06:57 AM

Newegg is about to get on my shortlist quick!! They have been terrible this past year gouging prices. The Antec 1200w was 70 bucks more there for the longest time. It seems like they are getting a little too comfortable with their lead in the market. Plus I bet their China endevour isn't going so well. That means us US customers get to make up for it. :P

ReverendMaynard 03-16-2010 07:09 AM

give ncixus a shot. they price match and the shipping is stellar. Been using them for a while now, never any issues and cpu wise, they seem to get epic batches.

Kal-EL 03-16-2010 07:10 AM

Chuchnit 03-16-2010 07:51 AM

Wow with the prices going around I'm wondering if availability is going to be low for a couple weeks? Prolly just smart retailers though. Damn Amazon wants almost 1200 bucks for theirs.

They must sprinkle "awesome" sauce on theirs.

Chuchnit 03-16-2010 07:59 AM

Maybe, but they aren't the only one asking so much. I didn't pay attention to i7 965 launch. Was it the same?

Witchdoctor 03-16-2010 08:19 AM

I think so but they also released the 940 and 920 soon after so a lot of us poor bastards waited ..... this will force the hand of enthusiast to suck it up or wait a significant amount of time until an affordable 32nm comes out

I could rough it with a 6Ghz quad 32nm ..... LOL

GFDuke 03-16-2010 09:58 AM

All kinds of bad news today. 980x is on backorder at Tiger Indirect and my LN2 supplier backed out on me. Back to the grind. I'll just have to take another LN2 route. Not as cheap though.

ReverendMaynard 03-16-2010 10:08 AM

dang Duke, why would the LN2 guy bail?

Chuchnit 03-16-2010 10:10 AM

Shoot, I'm having no luck today either. Called the only other two ln2 suppliers in the area to get something cheaper than $1.60L, but neither do transfers. :( Looks like I'm stuck getting raped by the same place.

GFDuke 03-16-2010 11:06 AM

My brother was getting me a 230l Dewar through his work place. Its a big machine shop. He had it all set up through the purchasing agent and from what he tells me the plant manager put the stop on it. He was afraid of the liability of it leaving the plant.

Looks like i'l be paying the same as you Chuch. 160l tank for 160. I was going to get that 230l for 75 bucks. I am sooo bummmed.

Witchdoctor 03-16-2010 11:09 AM

Sorry for the total noob questions here but looking at Ln2 possibly in the future so trying to learn waht I can...

So the question is how far does a liter get you so I can kind of form a bugdet of what type of cost's I will have on top of buying all the supporting hardware such as pots and dawars and all

so if you have a 35 liter Dewar how many hours of benching does that get you .... ?

It would be around 56 bucks to fill

FACE 03-16-2010 11:09 AM

That plant manager's a puss... All he has to do is have you sign a waver or invoice or anything declaring that it is your responsibility...

Sorry buddy, my tank sucks. I can't help you much here. I loose alot without using it. I gotta use it as soon as I feel it. I know Buckeye has a good tank and plenty of experience. PM him ;)

GFDuke 03-16-2010 11:19 AM

I agree Face. I had my brother ask him if i could just leave the 230L Dewar on the premisis and fill up a 50L from it to take home and he said no. Douchebag. I'd rather not get into it with him. I dont want to cause my brother any greif on his job. I'll just open my own business account at Airgas and suck it up.
