What is "Socket B"?

Kriztoffer 02-28-2010 06:10 AM

1366 is socket B, I think.

If they where retail by now, wouldn't Newegg, Tiger Direct or any other big interwebz store list them?

Not sure. Msi Lightning is retail now an I cant find it anywhere.

Russianhaxor 02-28-2010 08:08 AM

No, it shouldn't be available until around cebit.

Kal-EL 02-28-2010 08:25 AM

I mean by hwbot standards. Something about being for sale at so many retailers means its "Retail"

I Disagree, if you can't go out and buy the damn thing TODAY then its not retail.

Those are ALL pre orders.

When you run the place that determines if my scores are validated or not, you can disagree whole heartedly and I'll listen with puppy dog eyes, till then :taunt: retail is whatever Lord Fredrik says it is.

Its retarded either way, completely political decision. If the product hasnt been recognized officially by the manufacturer how in god's name can you consider it a retail part???

Kal-EL 02-28-2010 09:03 AM

Dunno, what status would you give Mars cards?

Gunslinger 02-28-2010 09:06 AM

If it's on the company's product roadmap, and there are actual pieces with the company name laser etched on them, as well as in the microcode, I would consider that recognized by the manufacturer, regardless as to whether or not there is retail availability. ;)

FACE 02-28-2010 09:10 AM

If you can buy it, I consider it retail in my book. Pre-order shouldn't be considered though...

Planet 02-28-2010 10:00 AM

The way Intel does it is they have a date for the announcement. Then they have the actual launch date. They have already announced it a while back but have not officially launched it yet.

Thats a tough one, they're a limited run... but you can theoretically buy them in retail.

Yeah, if its not officially launched by the company then its not retail in my eyes.

Neuromancer 02-28-2010 02:39 PM

They are getting boints, so I guess it is good enough for the Bot.

http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/core_i7_980x

(They are put in the wrong catagory though, listed under i7 not i7 extreme

Hondacity 02-28-2010 03:06 PM

price at provantage is enticing :D

Brace for impact guys, boints will be lost at an astonishing rate but we will rebuild them.

It will truly be a necessary purchase for global boints

I agree bro... i guess i will have to buckle down and start saving now

Dentlord 02-28-2010 05:41 PM

Am I missing something ... the only things it will destroy are wprime, where it wont be hurting our 4x cpu ranking, and vantage, where cpu test only makes a minimal difference in overall score?

Chuchnit 02-28-2010 05:42 PM

No because the overclocks are going to be so much higher is why. If they only hit frequencies of 45nm i7's it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Retail is rumored to hit 5.8ghz+. Actually I think 6ghz is more like it for a good one.

Gotcha ... I still dont think the loss will be as fast or as dramatic as kal implied. epecially since a lot of us will be right there riding the wave :D

True words spoken buddy. I would never doubt more than a handful of guys having one or more really soon :D

FACE 02-28-2010 06:04 PM

A few factors should take down the immediate effects

The fact that not all of them are going to hit uber clocks is the main concern.
How disheartening would that be: $1000 for a bum chip......

Kal-EL 02-28-2010 06:05 PM

The 3D benches will have to be re-run under Gulftown.

FACE 02-28-2010 06:10 PM

is physx on for that mark?

punx223 02-28-2010 06:30 PM

dude physx doesnt apply on 3dm06

but the 32nm chips do clock better....

to put it in perspective.... imagine going from a old Q6600 to a G0

thats basically the difference were gonna see here.... they're gonna hit righteous clocks for sure.... we will have to start looking at this as a team....

we will need these cpu's.... and any globals are in danger, but we will still hold any hardware points we have for the most part, but me finally in a position that is much more OC friendly.... i believe i will be working on getting a cpu as quickly as possible...

we will need to work together to keep up with this.... but i think we will be ok :ohcrap::ohcrap:

FACE 02-28-2010 06:36 PM

LOL, believe me, we all want one....

I'm tucking away pennies for one as well.

kikicoco1334 02-28-2010 09:42 PM

i think i was reading on some chinese web and they are talking about how intel is giving euro people early release for the i7 980

Splave 03-01-2010 03:02 AM

so will this chip finally bring down e8600 in 01? at 6.3ghz or so it should without ht correct?

Very excited for this. Though it will be sad to say good bye to this i960.

These chips will own spi32m wont they? low low 6's maybe even 5m59s

DrNip 03-01-2010 03:34 AM

It's a sad day for me, as much as I wanted to snag one of these I will have to pass. :(

Witchdoctor 03-01-2010 03:52 AM

Yea me neither Dr. ........... not right away anyhow

Hoping MC gets some and sells them uber cheap like they did with the 920's

Have not seen a recent road map but am hoping for a 6 core = to the 920 ....

Popularity is the deal at the bot so these will not reap big boints hardware wise for a little while ....

Globals are in serious trouble though with out one of these chips in your rack.

DrNip 03-01-2010 03:54 AM

Maybe I can sell some stocks on down the road to get one.

Buckeye 03-01-2010 04:08 AM

As I do not plan on buying anymore Extreme CPU's from Intel, been burnt to many times I am going to pass on those.

I suggest to hang out a bit and see how these retail chips turn out, batch numbers that are good etc.

I keep remembering how the 965XE rolled out, then later the 920 which was a much better value and OC'd better, then the 975XE. All that in a pretty short period of time. My 965XE dropped in value so much so fast its not funny.

Won't there be like 2 versions anyway, Extreme and Non Extreme ?

Witchdoctor 03-01-2010 04:08 AM

I have two full i7 set ups ... I would hate to part with one but may have too

But EX chips I have never owned one and never will ......

Just not worth it ..... IMO

Yeah I agree with that, after buying 4 extreme cpus LOL
I guess if you go that route, buy the Extreme and Bench it fast, then resale as quick as possible. You will lose some $'s but don't sit on them for to long.

IIRC, there will be, but not until this fall. :ohcrap::thumbdown:
