4 way 762 / 285 requirments

what PS will sport 12/6 pins ??? and handel the loaded requirments with a substancial overclock on the CPU and the GPU's ????

Kal-EL 12-22-2009 09:20 AM

A single psu? none that I can think of. I use a silverstone 1500w and PCPC 1200w.

Witchdoctor 12-22-2009 09:26 AM

Dam 2700 watts....... :ohcrap:

Do the lights dim when you boot that Kal ??? LOL

Rogue210 12-22-2009 09:27 AM

LOL I think there are fireworks when he benches

1200 Antec Quatro OC edition

Dunno if it will handle everything in extreme cold conditions :) But it will handle higher than its rating and has 12 PCIE plugs :)

Witchdoctor 12-22-2009 01:45 PM

Wow ... thanks for the help guys.

Just brutal requirments .... not conviced either Neuro that 1200 would make the cut .......

Wonder if 4x 5850's would hang with the 285's ?

Kal-EL 12-22-2009 01:56 PM

I don't think they'd hang with the overclocking overhead the gtx classifieds possess.

The lights don't dim oddly enough with two psu's being run together. Just don't run you'r SS on the same room line as you're rigs. THat was my problem in days past, I ran an a/c unit, a/c chiller, two 1200 w PSU"s off one room line and constantly tripped the breaker. Got me braggin points for that ;)

Witchdoctor 12-22-2009 02:59 PM

LOL.... I hear that Kal, freaking plug it up and the hell with the numbers who ever can make the electric meter spin the fastest wins .......LOL

In retrospect think I will look to the 760 and three way CF/SLI for the future instead of the 762 and quads

How did four scale in comparison to three ???

I haven't taken it to it yet but that's the I have to update

thebanik 12-22-2009 04:58 PM

Do you guyz really need that much power??? I was able to tri-sli GTX280 oc'd(they were on air) and i7 950 on DICE above 5Ghz on a CoolerMaster 850W PSU.......

Kal-EL 12-22-2009 05:29 PM

I burned out a 1200w psu with a qx9650 + two 9800gx2's @ 5.4ghz and 800/1200 on the cards, been running dual psu's ever since.

Then i guess its gotta have something to do with 120V lines???? I got QX9650 @ 5.5 and 2 9800GX2/4870x2, :), on the same 850W here in India where we run on 240V

Kal-EL 12-22-2009 07:08 PM

I only had problems when I ran up the CPU + GPU clocks. Could be the lines tho as 240v is much different that 120v.

I guess basically what you're saying is that your 850w psu is all thats needed for a top scoring rig? I'm tryin to swallow that pill but its not going down. :Dizzy:

RomDominance 12-22-2009 07:21 PM

Thats because its a suppository Kal....:ohcrap:
I don't think my 1200w 100a monster PCP&C is enough for your set up Kal, let alone a 850,...bah humbug!

certainly not enough for your 4 GPU's running in tandem.....but yeah I have run 2 GTX295 and i7 as well on my 850W....I have another 850W in the closet just for the day when my primary wont be able to take the load....

Witchdoctor 12-22-2009 11:09 PM

I wonder if it has to do with the way the 240 is converted into 12v ????

If not I am at a loss and you should write them and give them a pt on the back

that is a kick ass 850 bro..... my 750 PCP &C did not make the trip with 2x 295's

thats why I had to use that TT 650 GPU PS

Neuromancer 12-23-2009 05:02 AM

*sigh

Worked well enough for Shamino but extreem cold, yes as I said earlier I doubt it. Pretty sure the i7 alone is going to pull more than 300W, another 50+ for the board. 50 for ram and hdds... That only leaves 800W rated to 1000W actual left for the GPUs :)

Gunslinger 12-23-2009 06:45 AM

The Antec TPQ 1200 will power it all, unless you're running LN2 on the graphics as well. This is coming from Andre's testing. This includes LN2 cooled CPU (gulftown) and OC'd GPU's on air or water.

I have been looking at that Silverstone 1500..Hopeful to future proof but it has mixed reviews. I also like the direct connect over the Mod...

So that 1200 Antec is supposed to be good also Mike???

The 1100 CM has been strong but I have alot hooked up and will try 2 5970's sooner or LATER!!!!

Kal-EL 12-26-2009 04:01 PM

What was the low points on the silverstone 1500?

Gunslinger 12-26-2009 04:07 PM

The Antec 1200 is a monster. There is no such thing as future proof ;)

lakeside2189 12-26-2009 04:10 PM

Looks like most of the egg reviews are only low because of the main connector being different..I can't see why that would be a biggee...

Most of the actual reviews are good to great.....I think i want one!!!!

Kal-EL 12-26-2009 04:12 PM

Just wondering cuz I've not had one bit of trouble with it so far.

Oh cool, you have one....So you can use just that if you wanted with no problems ,right??? The 1500

Kal-EL 12-26-2009 07:14 PM

Been using it for the 4-way 5870s all this time. 4-way gtx285classified requires additional pcie so that's where pcpc1200 comes into play. ;)
