E762 from the cradle to the grave

Board is shot. It shuts down randomly but mostly after being put under load.

How did it happen? I suspect it was during my pushing of the PCIe clocks past 115 while tryin to get more blck out of Rogue's 920 chip.

I popped in the 3570 and it does the same routine as the 920. All the good troubleshooting steps taken, bios re-flash, the 9 yards, mem switch, bla bla.

So instead of using the E762 thats arriving monday for a new contest, its going into service. ;)

FYI for those with E762's, don't drop a cheap chip into it and expect gold.

Interesting stuff. I have pushed mine to 115 at times as well. Fortunately I had no problems other than the LAN ports not working. Only seemed to quit working when I pushed the PCIE frequency too high. When I get back in the mix I am going to be a lil more cautious.

On a side note you have a 3570 as well as a 3580? :cool3:

Kal-EL 11-29-2009 03:14 AM

Sorta, chuchnit has the 3580 which he'll be sending to me soon, hopefully. :D

Witchdoctor 11-29-2009 03:43 AM

Ahh man that is a bummer Kal.... very exspensive board ......

Do you think it is worth the money ????

I will be putting the 758 under pressure soon ... I hope that it can hold up under the pressure but will prolly only push it to 110 PCIe as I try to get 4.9 to 5GHz benchable.

Kal-EL 11-29-2009 03:55 AM

If I had to guess, it had something to do with having the nf200's and so many pcie slots. You never know unless you push. I pushed clock to far and sharted myself.

Buckeye 11-29-2009 05:16 AM

WoW very sorry to hear that :(

Thats odd that just upping the PCIe Freq would do that, mine has been up over 116 with no ill effects.

I am sure this has been confirmed as to causing damage ?

Didn't know you were sporting a 4-way motherboard too Bill, nice :good:

Kal-EL 11-29-2009 05:47 AM

Switched out bios chips and nada. She won't boot past 25/26 post codes. Switched gpu's, gpu slots, nada.

I switched to the 759 and both chips run great on it so its not the chips or mem modules. Time for Rammadamma RMA

:sorry::rroulette: Meant to do this sooner. YGAPM coming......

Suckos about the board, but I guess its the price you play. May the RMA gods be kind and unlocked multi chips only enter the socket. Were you pushing the nf200 voltages while bumping the pci freq?

Neuromancer 11-29-2009 05:55 AM

Surprised that it was the board. Although I had a sneaky suspicsion.

What is most disturbing, is the lack of response you got from the 920 on that setup.

69_Goat 11-29-2009 07:13 AM

Just wondering if you tried switching back to an older bios.
One of the originals.

punx223 11-29-2009 08:57 AM

wow dude taht is just stupid?!?! get that thing replaced and ride it hard again

69_Goat 11-29-2009 09:42 AM

Must be something in the air.
My 760 is going to RMA land as well.
With this one there is no doubt the board is hooped.
The smoke, sparks, and flames kinda gave it away. :ohcrap:

I debated for a couple ms about taking a pic while it was smoking, cause I know
how much you guys all like pictures.

I switched out the bios chip but can't get past 25/26 post code on that chip too so no way to flash back to bios#1

Sorry what I ment was on my 3-Way, sorry about that.

Kal-EL 11-29-2009 03:36 PM

Looking at this thread, I can't call it, seems like they are owning this board on bclk http://kingpincooling.com/forum/show...p?t=182&page=7

Noob behind the board?

Neuromancer 11-29-2009 03:56 PM

Dang. I need to get me one of them..

thebanik 11-29-2009 07:02 PM

My god, what is the general RMA rate of these classifieds??? normal 759 and 760, I am trying to import one from US, and if it dies then I am gone.....It already costs so much and then add shipping + 30% customs, do you guyz think its worth??? I can already do 5.1Ghz for 2d benches on DICE on my MSI Pro-E and Eclipse....

RomDominance 11-29-2009 09:02 PM

Kal this is prolly a silly question, but did you try the main boot drive on a different sata port just for gits and shiggles? Also, no reason to go over 110pcie on the 920 as most will do 5ghz under ss with that. Let me know if your 3570 is goin up for grabs, Rick and I both need one lol. GL my brother!:clapping:

Nah, didn't try that, I'll set everything back up and give that a go. I wonder if my vcore is just too low?
