32M Low clock challenge (no prizes, just fun) :)

Hey guys wanted to start up an open 32M LCC (low clock challenge). For any who have never participated in a low clock challenge. An LCC is a contest in Super pi 32M (or any particular benchmark) whereby you try to get a score in a certain time/score zone, but at the lowest possible cpu clocks. Hopefully we can all learn something valuable with the experience/observation and improve our superpi efficiency.

For instance in the "10 Minute" timezone, you would want to score 10 minutes xx seconds in superpi 32M at the lowest clock you can. You can improve scores by memory tweaking, os tweaking, overclocking memory, copywaza, etc. So obviously the best way to do this is to score 10 minutes 59.xxx seconds, just squeaking into the timezone. Memory will of course play a cameo role in these comps for 32M, as will tweaking that memory.

I will update this thread as submissions are made. I was thinking 3 categories. i7/i5/i3, Core 2 duo and AMD. Nothing is set in stone so let me know what you guys want. I was thinking 13, 12, 11, 10, 9 and 8 minute timezones for 775, and 7 and 6 additionally for i7. AMD can be from 21 down to 11 or so? I will be starting things off here in the next few days in the i7 category. I may also play in Core 2 Duo since its a really fun platform to tweak.

I'm IN!

Nice going, Karmakazi.
These LLC's are the best way to learn how to tweak for a particular bench.

thebanik 11-25-2009 08:14 PM

Me in too..........If i get time today, will make a quick submission today itself......

DrNip 11-26-2009 12:25 AM

Nice. I was thinking of this a few months back but that is as far as I got with it. Will have to get in on this.

thebanik 11-26-2009 03:17 AM

Categories please, have some free time for testing.........

Anyways here is one result, not tweaked at all, simple boot and run

If the contest goes on long enough I may be able to participate :) I love a good pi session :)

Next couple of weeks are looking pretty full, got a new video card I have to learn as well as some other ideas I want to work on. Christmas is fast approaching as well.

Well I was thinking this can be an open ended contest. We will all just keep posting and beating previous scores

DrNip 11-30-2009 08:22 AM

Yeah its best to keep this contest running as over time with newer hardware you'll beat the older hardware.

You think the i7, i5 and i3 should be separated?

karmakazi 11-30-2009 08:27 AM

Rankings categorized and updated! Congrats to thebanik for starting things off!

We will see how the submissions go. Theyre may not be enough setups to split categories further. For now I think 3 main categories will keep it looking clean

DrNip 11-30-2009 08:38 AM

Yeah i3's I dunno anybody that is going to get one or that they will be that popular. The i7's and 5's though will need to be eventually. Then again I dunno anyone around here with an i5 except for review purposes.

Neuromancer 11-30-2009 10:24 AM

I was suprised how many people jumped on the i5 setups TBH. I really expected that to be more Dell/HP type systems. I just can't see any enthusiast wanting the reduced memory and GPU capabilities, considering there really is not much difference in price.

DrNip 11-30-2009 10:28 AM

Yeah I don't understand it either. Not like there is a huge price difference.

Rogue210 11-30-2009 06:43 PM

Cool...I'll try to run some benches later on tomorrow....I will try it with the core2duo :good:

Thanks homie. The sad thing is that I've had this OS for months. I just never tested it.

BTW, ranking updated in post #2 now

Witchdoctor 02-26-2010 04:21 AM

Wouldn't Banik be the leader in the 7 second range ???

thebanik 02-26-2010 04:52 AM

chuc, with your submissions, looks like you havent got the point of lcc's. In a lcc you have to target a specific time bracket like say, 7m.XXX, now the best score is the one which is in 7 minutes bracket even if 7m.59.999s and lowest clock speed.

Yep, you're right banik, keep that 32m sucker in check. Chuchnit, you need to change them rankings homo!

But still, check the performance product on them runs!

I have seen his amazingly brilliantly optimised 3d 01 scores in one of the earlier comps, sad I sold my 950, would have really liked to give him a healthy fight and learnt some master tips from him in the process....whats the point of these comps. if not to learn new things, right???

No worries man, I literally just got off the phone bitching his ass :greenwtf: out for not posting his methods on the forum. He aint hiding it, just didn't bother to put it down on paper yet, which he assures me will happen soon.

Can you imagine what I coulda ran @ 6.4ghz with the 670??????? :Dizzy:

Chuchnit 02-26-2010 05:25 AM

Guys I was in a hurry trying to update the thread while I was supposed to be working ;). I will fix the rankings laterz. I will try to explain to you guys what tweaks I use but honestly its mostly the OS which is available to all oca hwbot members :)
