Got a few mods I will need help with
EDIT: Just need help on ordering stuff
List of devices EVGA 7600GT from OCN EVGA 7600GT from eBay I also have a bloodrage coming in a couple weeks probably (e-check clears on Wednesday.. so probably 2 weeks after that since it ships from Canuckistan) So thinking about picking up a asRock x58 extreme in the meantime with a 3GB kit of kingston t1s. these sticks Asrock is a "gimmie" I can flip it back out for cheap.. and more importantly practice my PCIE modding little tiny baby resistor moving skills. (highly in doubt... adding.. no problem. removing without cooking? problem) So... Need any advice you guys can give me.. from cooling to vmodding (this is why I posted here). Should I just pay another member here to mod the stuff for me? I cant afford GPU pots yet.. so I will need a cooling solution (GPU cooler) that is damn near universal.. even if it means modding the hell outta it... not an issue :cool3: Just as long as any heatpipe clears chips that might be directly above the GPU... Or leaves enough clearance I can get a decent ram sink on there.... BIOS modding I will learn elsewhere so not worried about releasing latencies to get these GDDR2 chips loose to get to 600+ MHz. I am going to have to pick up thermal probes too... thats going to have to wait till I get a debit card reactivated on my PP account though :( Maybe this week? Probably next. As I doubt the suntekstore will allow an instant bank transfer on paypal being located in China and all. So... what do I need to buy (bulk is okay if its universal...I will probably be doing more in the future) as I would rather learn on cheap stuff Both modding the cards and modding the asrock extreme (later maybe modding the bloodrage :) ) Thats the real worry. I think you are supposed to use a 15W iron for them itty bittys... but... still dunno how to release both sides without cooking the SMD TIA |
If you want to pay for shipping them back and forth I will gladly mod the cards for you no charge for my time. The VR's are only a buck and I have a boat load of them

Oooo that is nice..
I may take you up on the offer, but I sort of want to learn how to do it myself sending you all my HW all the time would have you a) too busy to get anyone else's done b) not teach me anything LOL I would really rather learn how to do it on a couple of $25 cards, than a more expensive one. |
Sent my board out to George for the PCIE mod.
Want to try and tackle the vid cards myself. I have a couple 7600 series cards, a 7900 series, couple of 7800s inbound and a 9500. buy a whole bunch of pots so I have them for future mods.. can i order a range of vr's to just cover them all? What should I order and how much wire :) molex connectors for read points I suppose would be pretty smart as well. (any shops have all the parts?) |
Another v-modder in the works ;)
|
I know I am brand new to modding ... but a great way to get wire is just cut up an old IDE cable ... a few mods worth of small easy to work with wires in one of those suckers ;)

Thanks Dent, I just read that myself. Been pouring over all the guides I can find for the last couple hours :)
I am pretty confident in my sodlering abilities for vmod type of more. But I HATE removing/desoldering. But I have neither a heatgun nor solder wick lol so of course that it makes it difficult. I should find out if my old job is going under completley... maybe pop up there and grab some supples for cheap. :) Solder stations, those lamp/glasses that clamp to your desk giant ESD mats. That would be freaking sweet. Those dual solder station with adjustable controls are bad ass. Course they are also like $700 bucks :( One nice thing about vmodding though.. is no using the solder pot!! Woo hoo I hated that.. (big vat of molten solder you dip the pins in then crack it on the bench to prevent shorts. shitty job, full of fumes and tiny little burns from having 700F solder splash on yah). Pot is used when you are soldering on, like IDE connectors. |
