x58 board recommendation
Going to sell my x58 platinum and FSP 900W PSU when my corsair PSU arrives.
Looking for a board that can disable CPU throttling. Classifieds/R2E will be out of my price range unfortunately :( Unless there is $100 price drop coming soon :) All MSI boards have throttling enabled. Is there a more "budget friendly" board that has this feature reliably? Do not care about CF/SLI or other crazy features. |
EVGA 3X SLI, although Im having some issues now with the rig, doesn't mean this board is not awesome.
what price range you looking at dude? |
Is cheap a price range ?

If I am going to Spend $300. I might as well just get an R2E or classified. I was thinking "budget" As in 200-250 new and I will grab it for 150+ used.
I have seen open box r2es on newegg for far less than that. A la P6, r2Gene Foxconn etc. hmm newegg labelled the tpower board "world record OC for 940. Only 4.8 GHz though :( Wonder if that means throttling is disabled. I have only had 2 biostar boards before, both were cheap POS's but they were cheap lol One I only kept for a couple of weeks (945 chipset) other (I forget) was for socket A, NF2 maybe? Died and resurrected itsefl about 1-1.5 years later when I pulled it outta the closet and tried firing it up :) (That is one hell of a CMOS reset time I tell ya!) |
well I was just recommending what I know does not throttle and I have and know is good. I can't vouch for anything else as i've never owned another board. what about the Gigabytes? They don't throttle I believe.

Hey Neuro, I found a review that was done on that board, and to me it looks like if you disable EIST in the BIOS it should disable the CPU throttling.
http://www.overclockersclub.com/revi..._x58_platinum/ Just wondering if you tried that. |
Yup. Been to MSI forums, apparently ALL the boards have the throttling issues
With HTT on I can "see 4.4GHz" but CPUz drops down to 18x multi if I try to OC further. Tried not using 21x or turbo mode (different settings) same deal 18x. IT is known to exist on all MSI boards, even the Eclipse (their "top" board) although I did here some mention about a bios update fixing it on the Eclipse. |
Wish i had a sugg for yah Man but I only have experience with the EVGA boards.
|
Do all the EVGA board have the throttle lock?
