Is there more to it then setting 50x and having decent cooling?
(I need more time at home to play with x79 ...)

MaadDaawg 04-22-2012 02:55 AM

I don't know about the other boards, but the RIVE has so many BIOS options it gives e a headache :argh:

Splave, do you have subtimings for the GTX3?

PhIlLy ChEeSe 04-22-2012 04:45 AM

OK,
@Duke/Splave, So for quad channel(four DIMS) you use the black DIMMS on the RIVE? I thought the book said use the red one's?

I got my old mount from the X58 (water block) and it lines up with the holes on the MB, but the threads are different. How do you get around this? :ohcrap: Just put it all together.........
The CPU TIM I assume you use a little more as the CPU is so much bigger???
Feel like a noob!! :scared:
Thanks guys!!!!

GFDuke 04-22-2012 04:57 AM

I don't know about the Asus board. We are talking about the MSI board for MOA competition.

Use the red channels for the RIVE :D

If you got the RIVE new, there is a 1366 backplate in the box. Just swap out the back plate and your waterblock works. Otherwise, you need 4mm screws to thread the native 2011

it take a bit more if you are running 2400+ mem and 125 strap :D

The gd65 doesnt have a ton of bios options which is great! must auto set things properly because it was fairly easy and quick.

RIVE has too damn many, so I set most of them to auto

Splave 04-22-2012 09:19 AM

Damn, I just found some in my box of mounting hardware they fit I'm up and running.

GFDuke 04-22-2012 12:12 PM

Overclocking gives me a headache. :argh:

Wifes gonna be home all week so i can't stay here and work on this setup. I am sooo bummed out right now.

On top of all that i can't find shit for a MSI GPU. I know i'm not alone. By the time i can get something the competition will be near the end and i'll have shit for time to work on anything. ARRRRGGGHHHH

Sorry i'm venting...... i needed to get that out.

PhIlLy ChEeSe 04-22-2012 01:09 PM

OK,
After updating drivers (last ones loaded are the USB AM something) it will boot to the cursor and keep on blinking? Even tried a fresh install same thing happened :argh:.

MaadDaawg 04-22-2012 01:14 PM

If you are not at default clocks and volts, set everything to default. This board is real touchy.

BTW, your new avatar is obscene and disgusting (solely because that's not MY lap she's on ). Please remove it and send me an 8 x 10 glossy :D

MaadDaawg 04-22-2012 02:21 PM

these board are finaky (spelling?) If you're on optimal defaults, then... not sure..
Mine does that if I set the bclk above 100 :ohcrap:
well, actually over about 103.5
good luck Bro :)

BenchZowner 04-22-2012 02:58 PM

finicky :p

Old Dawg can't spell ( hopefully it can learn new tricks :P )

Hope none of you are using your best CPU on a "MSI Mooootherboard!"

thebanik 04-22-2012 08:10 PM

Hopefully a 3770K would be here in a day or two.......Cant wait to put it under LN2.......

Splave 04-23-2012 03:02 AM

Filling up dewar today hopefully 7970 shows up!

Splave 04-23-2012 04:00 AM

2nd chip max is 5497mhz on SS, 3rd chip max is 5307mhz on water still need to test on SS. Dropping off my dewar right now :D

Splave 04-23-2012 05:19 AM

Hows yours coming along dukie?
You might have to ask dogg if he will let you borrow his chip ;)

PS to restart when it freezes dont hold power button, but short the reset jumpers with something metal (they are labelled on the board)

GFDuke 04-23-2012 10:48 AM

I havn't had a freeze up yet. Speedstep (EIST right?) is fucking with me i think. Trying to boot at 50x multi @ 1.4 vcore. Everthing seems to be fine. POST shows 5ghz, it boots to windows but when i open cpuz its showing me a 12x multi. So i'm a bit confused. I think we might need a conference. lol

Edit: Flashed to 1.6 bios things are better. I guess 5ghz @ 1.40 vcore is the best i can do so far.

GFDuke 04-24-2012 01:03 AM

I will try again tonight.

Splave 04-26-2012 11:50 AM

sooo chip is a beast x56 no problem 1.575v -28c on ln2 kpc heavy base. will try for higher after I get some scores in but x56 is plenty for single card and dont want to zap it yet.

GFDuke 04-26-2012 12:07 PM

Nice dude.

MaadDaawg 04-26-2012 12:56 PM

VERY nice

How cold could you go with the LN2?

Splave 04-26-2012 01:06 PM

only down to -31c while physics is just starting and then let it go till that and combined finishes at around -28c

GFDuke 04-26-2012 01:20 PM

Couldnt you just use the SS for those temps?

BenchZowner 04-26-2012 01:31 PM

I shall be benching 2 3770Ks in a few hours.
Wish me luck :D

Its pretty easy actually on Gigabyte.....I used the same concept of SB ocing and it worked(my chip was 5.4Ghz, so only till that). Will update with my Gigabyte settings if you want in a couple of hours.....
