Patch 12-16-2010 08:12 AM

Guys, the lightning price premium is for power circuitry. And it's appropriate. Still need to bin the GPU.

There's no friggin way any company would be able to recoup the cost of true binning from consumers on anything more than very limited samples for advertising and reviews. They would lose money.

I've had it with ATI for while.

Maybe when they grow up and learn how to write drivers for their damned cards.

Pretty much the gospel right there buddy. My beef, and it is a small one, is with the way they go about marketing it. Actually with the way Nvidia does their binning on GF100-110 it should be possible if SF3D's P-state research is true in large scale. The problem is MSI is at the will of nvidia as far as agreeing to sale high leakage GPU's. Then if Nvidia is willing to do that, how much more are they gonna want to charge for a premium. Then there ya go with the price still going up up up.....

Yea I agree that is a huge part of the cost, That being said though, with a dog GPU what good is it?

garrett former MSI engineer said there is no way to bin these before they strap them on the cards so luck of the draw....

Garrett Wu? Where did he go? Is Asus trying to corner the market on engineers?

That sucks.......... luck of the draw on a card costing $ 100.00 more than reference is hard to swallow for me

But I guess the drive for gold compells enough people to buy enough of them for MSI to keep offering them up ....

<<<<one of the suckrs. But i learn from my mistakes...most of the time. But hell i'm desprate enough for bointage to try anything, Even another Lightning if they come out with one in the 580 flavor. The new bot might change that attitude for me. And it might be a good thing financially..as much as i hate the idea of the new bot revision to come.

Edit: Lets not forget the Ferengi rule of aqusition #62 The riskier the road, the greater the profit.

We all are suckers when it comes down to it. We have all spent the cash for the best of the best one time or another, what gets me on the lightnings is so many of our OCA bretheren got ripped the fuck off on these cards .... I guess that is why it is such a sore spot, but I as well am a gluten for punishment .........

I think I may work towards a SOC 580 when availible .... That is if I can get some freaking work

Unfortunatly they are the same deal I am sure ..... pot luck
