Your increase might have something to do with the voltages.... Going back to 2 cores might require finding the sweet spot for them, as well as when it's unlocked.

I know when I disable cores on my i7 I kick back the volts a little for the win... My q6600 behaved the same way back in the day.

Is the 10 seconds reproducible or just happened once? Also when you went back to a dual core did you let windows see it and restart?

I only ran it once, I ran 1m a couple times and each one had a drop.
Just got in to windows and ran it, didnt restart.

Dropped voltage from 1.525v to 1.5 even.
