Default Shaders Link/Unlink?

Coming from more of a red background, I've generally kept them linked.

Disadvantages of unlinking for higher gpu clock?

The only real disadvantage I've dealt with is finding the "right" core/shader ratio after unlinking. It can really give you those extra frames/sec when you find it, but it can rob you until you do.

Depends on which card you're talking about.
If you're thinking of running any GTX 4xx card with unlinked shaders dream on, the core/shader clocks on those is locked at a fixed ratio ( 1:2 )

On the older cards you have an upwards freedom, so you can maximize your GPU clock, and then raise the Shaders more.

or vers vica, peek your shaders, unlink and increase your core.

On the high-end & mid-end GTX 2xx series the core reaches its limit before the shaders do, in most cases
