Default The little Things

I had my arm ever so slightly twisted lately and am getting a F1 EE (thanks, btw )

I've been reading through the guides, and think I've got my list covered. I just have a few questions on things I didn't see or overlooked.

1. What is the best knead eraser to use? How much will I need? Stopped by office depo and they suck here... the packets are tiny and I can only buy them in kits with art crap in them..... it's probably cheap and will stick to the board anyway...

2. How much DICE will I need for my 1st run? What's the ideal container?

3. Ventilation? Will I suffocate the family with this crapola in my house?

4. Neoprene thickness.... how much does that matter?

5. Instead of a fan, if I ported a/c cold air at the pot/mobo will it cut back or increase condensation?

6. If I cold bug, can I run a torch around the pot somehow and NOT blow myself up? (Dice/acetone)

Last for now... Is there any kind of wait time or warm up time needed before I break down the setup?

Most of the hardware and other stores around here are useless for finding most of the stuff I need... If you guys could put up a few links to where you get yours it would save me a ton of time shopping around....

Thanks a million in advance!
Pat

1. A dozen small ones should cover you. Don't think brand really matters much.

2. 15-20 lbs. is a good starting point. If getting it is a hassle, get more, it sucks to run out.

3. Probably not, but I usually set up a box fan to move the air around some.

4. 1/2 inch is good, you can stack it if you need a thicker section.

5. Won't help I think.

6. ABSOLUTELY NOT, if you bug, the board will idle at a bios post code, just let it warm back up idling. You should break it down while everything is frozen otherwise you'll have frost melting and running places you don't want it.

Neoprene and armaflex nsulation I bought from: http://kingpincooling.com/

Kneaded eraser I bought locally from Hobby Lobby.

Acetone, I bought from Home Depot

This should answer your questions about prepping.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=224911

20-40lbs of Dice is plenty and will last most of the day.
Bust up the DICE into a powder by putting th ebag of DICE into another plastic bag and smash it on the ground several times to break it up. Use a hammer to break up junks. Use a spoon to pour powdered DICE into the pot.

Add powdered DICE slowly at first as it will foam up and spatter so put shop towels on teh MB and GPU so no Acentone gets on anything plastic.

Large wide mouth tall pots with a copper bottom work best, alum tube is fine. Depending on how big the pot is keep about 1" of Acetone in teh bottom.

Cold Acentone does not smell that bad but have good ventialtion anyway.

Do not pour Acentone down the drain when done while it is still cold.

You will not have to worry about CB's unless your chip just will not run at these temps, if so find another chip.

NEVER use a torch to warm a DICE pot up if it CB's, NEVER. Remember Acentone is flamable.

People use a torch with LN2 and its fine, so is a hair dryer. They use a torch because it warms faster. I do not use a torch, but a hair dryer instead, its no biggie to me if it takes a minute longer.

The picture attached is a good DICE pot.
F1 with extender is ok, but still not big enough imo, you will get splater.

Sorry Gunny we posted at the same time

Agreed with everything but the point of breaking it while frozen. Most times at least while using LN2 it is not possible to break it apart right away since the CPU is frozen solid to the pot so be very careful about doing this right away.

You guys are awesome...

I'll keep looking around locally for the rubadub-dubber... I'll probably end up ordering it online though.... The only thing going for me locally is an Air-Gas up the road...

I did kinda bust a lil' in my pants on the pot.....

Oh yeah, I'm confident now. These guys know their shit, and that's why I asked here. I figured I'd give my old 780i a good last run for the initial benches.... I forgot it had a lifetime warranty on it until I looked at my crap the other day @ evga. I know that board so well that it would be pefect for me to get my feet wet - er - cold...

Got a nice little desk mod in mind to make a perma-bench as well...
