Default How do I install XP w/sata set to AHCI mode?

I was told that for optimum SSD performance the OS should be installed in AHCI mode.

I can't get it to work. Probably just need some guidance.

I get either no storage device detected or BSOD when I try installing in AHCI mode.

I searched the net and found instructions for changing it to AHCI after installing in IDE mode using regedit then bios, but the registry key referred to does not exist.

I'm wondering if a non-trimmed xp would install successfully, I can't recall if I've ever tried a full xp install in ahci mode. I just know I haven't got it to install in ahci ever.

Probably a non-trimmed one would have the registry key that needs to be changed....I thought I read that TinyXP had the ahci drivers.

Ned to F6 floppy install with AHCI. Or slipstream the drivers.

I use winFLP and most boards do not have floppy drives, so I install in IDE mode and then convert to AHCI.

Google it based on what chipset you are using. Basically it involves reg-editing your storage controller to 0 (msahci, PCIIDE and/or iahci) and then going into device manager and updating the drivers for your storage controller.

Way easier than mucking about with a floppy or nlite.

Google keywords "change XP to ahci after install" +chipset (ICH10, SB750 etc...)
DO NOT use other peoples reg files or else you wont be able to do it yourself later..

Thanks man. I googled it to death and found instructions on how to change it afterwards, but the necessary registry key is missing from TinyXP. I will have to slipstream the drivers onto a TinyXP dvd tomorrow when I get more DVDs.

What is FLP and what are the benifits of using it....I have it on a DVD here but I didn't really know what it was.

Its just like XP sp2 except it is developed on Windows Embedded OS code base, and designed to run on old HW that does not meet XP requirements.

This is not the registry key you are looking for..

Just install the storage drivers via device manager, restart set to AHCI and let it rip

That worked. All I had to do was switch it. I was all stuck on installing the OS in AHCI mode, because I was told that would be best.

Anyways some parts of the restart seem way faster, but the overall time is roughly the same. Check it out.

EDIT: I had the 2 startup items disabled.......I enabled them and it got me down to 42 seconds.
