Ok so here is a little on the benching party this weekend
I am telling you these guys are RABID benchers, they could smell LN2 clear from LA and wasted no time after getting off of work to make the 7 hour drive to my place. Yup that put them at my house at a little before 1:00am on Saturday morning… Good Grief !!
There was no knock on the door, it just flew open and they ran in and spread equipment out all over the place, it looked like a totally deranged computer shop with rabid over clockers tearing things apart and acting like they knew what they were doing, well Jake anyway
I let them go at it and first thing up was a E8600 race between Shannon & Nick. The race heated up a lot and was neck and neck for a long time, until Jake came in and gave aid to Nick which pushed him past Shannon. Shannon had a few problems with a fan also, see the pic
These guys went solid for something like 18 hours with very few breaks. I would have to sit down and almost fall asleep until someone would pour some LN2 down my back and wake me up.
All in all everything went pretty good. We did have a few problems with LN2 tho.
My 50L is a low pressure Dewar and I have always had problems getting liquid LN2 out right after its been filled, it seem sto take a long time to get pressure up so that liquid will start to flow.
When I filled up the 50 the day before all was going good until the 50 got close to being full, then I noticed only gas was coming out the fill tube so I stopped. Next day I called Airgas and was told that there was a pressure valve on top of the 160L that was used to control the pressure in it. They said to start filling and turn that valve open so that pressure doesn’t drop. It would allow the 160L to build to 22psi instead of the 10psi that was normal for it. Well that didn’t work out very well after all and I thinks 160L is low pressure Dewar also.
So later the next day we filled the 50L and tried to get liquid from the 160L with Thermos. That just resulted in a lot of spray and liquid was hard to get out. So that kind of shut us down in the very late afternoon of Saturday.
The guys left kind of tired after I threw them out of the house, by force. Sorry everyone
Cgmj came around noon and missed a lot of benching, very sorry about that. But he hung in there like a trooper, prepped his board up and started benching on LN2 for his very first time. Big Kudos to him for making the long drive to bench here, was great meeting you George !!
Lee showed up and was actually a pretty cool guy. He didn’t scream very much when we dipped his hand in a pot full of LN2. He keep trying to run off with the bottle of vodka and we would have to chase him down. It was all ok tho as he came with two boxes full of homemade cookies, Thanks Lee !
Well here are a bunch of pic’s of it, in no order as I am too tired to sort it all LOL.
