Default Armor A30 Thermaltake World of Tanks Project log

Hello all,

I will be posting up a worklog for Computex created for Thermaltake and inspired by the World of Tanks game.

Lots of daily updates will be posted here - www.facebook.com/precisioncomputing as it is easy in the middle of modding to post to facebook

I am creating two, yes two, identical, well or as identical as two mods done by one person can be, tank cases.

Both will be generally themed from the USA Abrams tank. They will be a sand color, with minimal camouflage because well those tanks were used in battle on sand, the color was the camouflage.

I am actually going to be making these cases modular, not meaning they can be taken apart (which they actually can be, very cool little cases) but meaning they will be mobile. Yes that is right, these will actually end up as tanks that move via remote control, light up, shoot missiles from the top cannon, and well overall just be very cool and embody everything that is World of Tanks and Thermaltake if you combined the two.

I have a vision, which starting with my fascination with case modding. How practical will it be? Well maybe not that practical, but it will be able to have a usable computer built inside, and just in case you ever have to take your computer on the go, just make sure to have the batteries charged up and it will be able to handle most any terrain (for a PC tank ) and look really cool in the process.

I hope you enjoy, I look forward to your comments, please let me know what you think.

First things first, here we have the tank, and the case, overall a good size fit for each other, well with a little modding of course

One thing I like about this case is that it is modular in a sense, it comes apart very easily which makes working on such a small case very easy, and in a sense has a tank like feel, between its Armor name, its rugged look and the way it comes apart to be able to work on it.

Here we have her all stripped down:

After a quick sand and prep with a little rubbing alcohol she is ready for some paint:

One thing that is important when painting metal parts and their plastic counter parts is to achieve the same color. Well in order to do this, I will be using the same color paint, and simply using a plastic primer first on the plastic parts. They will be getting some weathering after the initial paint, this way all of the color will be uniform.

I always paint the underside, or backside first, most of the time it is hidden, so if there was an error in painting or a mistake was made (come on we are modding here) it is not in the most important visible areas.

Metal has the first base coat:

Time to give the plastic its primer coat, then as always when painting, a light flashing coat to ensure proper surface adhesion.

This was after two flash coats

I find it important when painting parts like this, with so many crevices and corners and ridges, to apply more thin coats then try to cover the surfaces in a heavy coat, first you will probably not get fully coverage no matter how good you are, and second, the paint will be too heavy and have a tendency to run or sag, thus impairing your end result and causing lots of tedious sanding to correct..

Hmmm what could this be?

More next time, thanks for watching

Tanks are ripped open, and through the wiring mess I can see the light!

Time to cut them down the center for widening
