Default Refresh rates?

When i first turn on my HTPC i have these little white flickering dots. They are faint but i can see them. If i go into my monitor propperties and change my refresh rate from 60mhz to 59 mhz they go away. Then, after i turn it off and start it up the next time they are present again at 59mhz. So i have to go into the refresh rate and change it back to 60mhz then they are gone again. Its a constant circle. Any ideas whats going on? 60mhz is the highest refresh rate my 55" Samsung will do.

I had a monitor once that acted like that when the room got warm.

roughly how many dots bro? That can be a power issue with the display itself, I've warrantied around 500 Samsung (through Dell oddly enough) units in the past 3 years ranging from 42"-55". That description fits a profile for sure, depending on the number and how they are grouped.

nVidia card? Is it beat to piss? lol

Can you replicate this on a complete different setup? Same htpc different display and Same display different htpc/pc/laptop... type action.

Hmm can you try to test it with another monitor ? to see if the problem is from the specific monitor or it has something to do with the card.

Its a radeon 5850 card. Yea its been beat up on my benchin rigs. I havn't tried another monitor or card yet. The tv only does it when i'm using my HTPC. When i turn it on just to watch tv its fine. Thanks for the ideas. I hope not to have to RMA a 55" tv.

ahh it's a 5850.....I think it's a profile issue, you have to force either higher clocks (400core iirc) or slightly higher vcore.

I had the exact same issue with mine.

I tried a few things. Changed the refresh rate in CCC. That worked un\til i turned it off and back on. Same as changing it in windows. I tried to oc the card but nothing . I tried to use my IGP but it was flickering. I guess i killed that when i benched the board for MOA. The only other HDMI card i have is my GTX580 direct cu2. I havn't even used this card. Bought it for benchin and i'm still not ready. I've done some gaming on it. Thats all. I might try that and see tonight. If i have time.
