He's safe in that aspect.

You'll be fine. Keep an eye out for oil leaks, overheats, and crappy performance issues.
Overheating a motor till it won't run DOES do internal damage. They're only fixing the external stuff that they can see. Make sure that it's written on the work order that it was due to a shop error when the car was serviced, otherwise you'll be on the hook for any of that internal damage should something happen down the road. MAKE SURE THEY TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT.
well, the car ran great until I shut it off. Only warning light that came on was the battery lite, but, the little electric fan wasn't working - which they should have caught on the inspection. They aren't admitting to any shop error, they say that these pulleys tend to pop off (though I've never heard of it) and there's no way to know in advance short of pulling the belt and wiggling the pulley. I don't buy it at all, but if the head is warped it will be instantly noticeable. I've replaced warped heads on beamers in the past (personally ) so I know what to look for.

My ex landlord of 10 years ago is a partner in a big Chcago lawfirm who told me to hire a certain firm that will work on contingency if I have a problem. Says most dealers will settle once they know you've hired these people cause they're tenatious bastards who always win

Block and head are now both aluminum, so hopefully no warpage - but, they're an hour overdue in calling me with the damage report, which ain't good
