i'll try 12gb for sp32

So I can't really try the dual channel (cb/cbb trick) then if I want to go after spi32m...

yes the cb trick was more for 3d runs...

for sp32m you'll have to disable the other cores...and prolly play with ram ref voltages...

Not true, not true. When we use maxmem we are limiting the amount of memory windows can use. There was some discussion about densities on DDR3 and 2GB just seems to be the sweet spot just like 1GB was for DDR2. I'm no memory expert though and only understood a sliver of that conversation. What I do know is that 12gb is gonna give you poop timings and mhz vs running 6GB due to IMC stress. If what you said was true about volume of memory XP 32-bit and 2003 server 32-bit wouldn't be the choice for super pi.

You can, but you are gonna loose some efficiency. From some very very limited dual channel testing I found that you loose ~400-800k pp (I think these #'s are right.) going from triple to dual channel. That is with the same exact uncore though. One other reason to go dual channel, or give it a try atleast, is to take some stress off the IMC and let the uncore run loose. You may be able to gain several 100mhz by dropping a channel which could make up for the lost performance product and then some. Look at Gutterz's i7 960 runs. Those were all in dual channel. He just made up for it with tweaking and retarded uncore speeds.

Do you have any links explaining ram ref volts? I have yet to find anything, but honestly haven't searched too much (yet). It's just that I've never seen it mentioned anywhere before. I was about to ask about this since the option is there on the UD6 and was wondering for a good starting point.

you can control how much xp need for memory. but you can't control how cpu address the memory.

so its 6gb vs 12gb

damn todo list is growing

You pick the timings, OS, tweaks, and all the random mhz's. I'll run 6GB and you run 12GB. It will be within margin of error I'm betting. That is if you pick a mhz and timings that you can run with all the dimm slots populated. This would make more since if we were arguing about 3x4GB vs 3x2Gb that are super bin IC's. Care to explain more about the cpu memory addressing vs windows? I just don't see how the CPU can/will address more than windows says to once you are in the operating system?

Honda what about vdimm ref volts? Do you have any data about those? Is there a starting point like with gtl's and such?

I'm just bustin' chops and making friendly competition man. Hell I hope you are right and we find another advantage as a team for super pi. I still challenge you to a dual though
