Default Intel does 5GHz on air!

I think that this goal may be the golden egg that Intel was trying to lay in order to make AMD's overclocking efforts appear to be unimportant.

During Computex Taipei 2009, Intel's Sean Malone took his Keynote Speaker role very seriously: the "Desktop Is Not Dead" statement was supported by a slew of very impactful machines, some of which I'll elaborate on here in detail.
Core i7 "1105" - 5.07 GHz!
Intel Core i7 975 processor clocked to 5.07 GHz using nothing else but a specially designed air cooler.

This is the fastest ever air cooled processor in the history of the IT industry: If you take the 133 MHz QPI base clock and multiply it 38 times, a nice lucky number in Chinese, you'll get a whopping 5.07 GHz. Eh, that's how fast the show demo Acer's gaming box ran, all air-cooled. Of course, do not expect Intel's default el cheapo air cooling unit, but rather a very expensive Intel Labs setup by Mr. Francois Piednoel, Intel Performance Guru. Still, even with Intel-assisted air cooling design the sheer speed and reasonable voltage needed [no it wasn't the 1.07 Volts shown, but more like 1.5 Volts, a recommended OC maximum by the French Wizard himself] was impressive nevertheless.

+1 but I'm not buying the whole speed binning story. They are full of it and trying to pump up sales. Keep an eye on xs and you'll see guys in the loop are gonna majically have way better retail chips than the next guy.

Lol so you are buying the Speed Binning story, just not Intel's side of it.

You are absolutely correct. Think about it. If they didn't cover their ass it would hurt saies. One of the baddest combos on the planet is AndreYang's W3540/evga Classified combo. Well that CPU doesn't fall into the "extreme" category, or most importantly the majical land of $1000.00.

There is only so many EE chips made. If they speed binned 1000 of them, wtf would be stupid enough to buy the ones left on the retail channel? NOBODY!! One other reason for them to address the rumors this way. Mark my words, the usual suspects will be operating at way higher mhz under ln2. The elite overclockers that aren't in the loop so to say will be pissed cause they can't find a chip to compete. That is until they start binning xeons...
