Default S/PDIF Optical Output not showing up in my audio properties

Vista 64bit OS. Motherboard is a EVGA 759 Classified. I have tried several different drivers but my Optical output dosn't show up. These same derivers work fine on my MSI board for the HT setup. Dam this is pissin me off.
The digital output in Sound Properties shows as an RCA jack. But i want the Optical on my motherboard.

Stupid question, but sometimes we do forget a few easy stuff :p

Do you have your setup connected with the SP/DIF optical out ?
AFAIR it doesn't appear unless you have something hooked up with it.

Mine shows up without being connected.

Remove the TOSLINK cable and see if the jack is glowing red.

If not, it might be damaged. If it is then it has to be a driver issue.

Thanks. Yea i get the red glow there and in my wall jack all the way to the reciever. I've flashed my mother board, gotten all the newest chipset drivers, Tried at least 4 different Realtek drivers and nothing has worked so far. The Digital Coaxial output thats showing in Realtek audio manager works fine and the sound is awesome. But it kind of defeats the purpose of having all my wires in the walls. I didn't put a coaxial jack in the wall. I agree it has something to do with drivers some how and maybe even my OS itself is fraked, idk. But the Optical output should at least be showing in control panel since it is lighting up. I've beat myself up enough over this. Ordered up a Creative XFI Titanium that has optical out on it.

Hey, JOOC,

Did you tell windows to "show disabled devices" ?

Right click the speaker icon in system tray (not realteks but windows)

select playback devices

Right click in the window that shows all the speakers, monitors etc, and select "show disabled devices"

Then you can try forcing it enabled.

After 4 day of hair pulling i figured it out. It was something stupid as usual. My plugs on the wires for the optical connections were too big and wouldn't push into the board far enough. So i got a cheap ass one that didn't have all the heavy duty shit and it fit better. Also one of the couplers in the wall wasn't making a connection. Luckily i left enough wire in the wall so that i could take the cover off of the oulet and pull the wire through (the couplers are female on both sides, so the wire you run in the wall has male on each end) and do a direct hook up and walla. The reason i knew the wires or connections were bad is because i hooked it up to my living room set up and it worked there. So now i have some real nice sound goin. These Martin Logan Speakes kick ass.
